did you mean to say nice food somewhere in there John?
The food is good, but the service last summer left a lot to be desired after the place changed hands... Nice summers day, moored up at G&D for lunch - couple of tables free outside so sat down. Eventually after being ignored for 20 mins a waiter arrives and asks if we want to order drinks.Me, "Yep, cokes for kids and a beer - and can we have some menu's please?"
Waiter (twat), "Oh, sorry sir you can't eat here."
Me, looking at 10+ tables next to us of people eating, "Errr, why can't we eat here?"
Twat, "This table is for drinks only."
Me, "But it's the same as all the other tables and I sat here 2 weekends ago for lunch?"
Twat, "Yes, but this table is only for drinks now."
Me, "OK, so where can we eat?"
Twat, "I guess I could see if a table is available inside?"
At this point it's worth pointing out that apart from two tables the restaurant inside is empty...
So, we eventually go inside with much muttering from me and over-use of the word 'pretentious'...
Me, "Can we look at the childrens menu as well please?"
Twat, "We don't do a childrens menu sir."
Me, "Errr, you did two weeks ago?"
Twat, "Yes, but we're now under new management and we don't have a childrens menu anymore."
Me, "OK, well we'll just look at the standard menu then."
Twat, "Of course sir, will the children also be eating?"
Needless to say, I didn't leave a tip...

Ah, I've never had that issue when I've been there (before or after the change), they must really like you
Heard from several other local boat owners that they had similar experiences/views, so not been back since. Hopefully it's mellowed a bit now - just think that when it changed hands they were trying to make a point of being more 'up-market'.Gassing Station | Thames Valley & Surrey | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
