Isn't that really what the G50 as a road car would be?
indeed could be...story said:
A flagship limited edition 520 bhp V8 Zytek-powered model will be released with the aim to be the fastest production car on the road.
Anybody have an update on the Zytek V8 model? i sincerely hope they canned it, at least for the time being. Surely a company the size of Ginetta cannot afford the bad press associated with trying to build their own engine?Edited by blueg33 on Sunday 12th May 21:55
Lets hope their not trying to develop an engine in-house, akin to commercial suicide IMHO.
The Ford V8 would be a bad choice, the GM smallblock less so, but as a competitor to the Vette I doubt GM would agree to it. I think they should stick with the V6 for the time being, but it sounds like LNT has his mind set on a V8, perhaps a hangover from the TVR days.
Whatever happens, I'm sure it won't be dull!

What is wrong with the FORD V 8 engine? Ford Motor Company make the best engines in the world. Ford Motor Company has always been loyal to Great Britain.
Henry Ford developed his first car in 1908. FORD certainly contributed to WW2. All our Bren Gun carriers were powered by the Ford V8 Engine, and most of our army lorries were powered by the same engine. The Barrage Balloons over London were raised and lowered by the Ford V8 engine. Thank you Ford Motor Company.
My own experience in Ginetta Cars Ltd - left me totally appeciative of Ford Motor Company, when they handed me the keys of their guest facility at Silverstone Racing Circuit, for a race meeting in which our Ginetta's were taking part - I was dumstruck.
Henry - you didn't know what you had started - now a hundred years later - Ford Motor Company still leads from the front.

I think I must reply to renaultgeek.
Yes - I am hoping to get over WW2 - although I can assure you I was vey much alive during that period. I was proud to serve with 6th Airborne Division, and along with my comrades ( like Ford Motor Company ) led from the front. Unfortunately, my war wounds have returned to haunt me - but it has just given me time to publish my war story titled ' Just Passing By '.
I still have fond memories of Ford Motor Company - as doubtless you have discovered.

I think you misunderstand, there is nothing wrong with Ford engines at all. I have recommended and used them in my own sports car designs in the past. I have worked with Ford for many years and have owned several, so please don't accuse me of Ford bashing.Bob W
However, the 4 and 6 cylinder units are very different that the V8 from a Marketing perspective. If you are building a muscle car or Cobra replica fine, but I have severe reservations about the suitability for a top of the range Supercar. Traditionally this is where the obstacle lies. Take the Ford GT for example. Unless Ginetta could offer a road-going V8 G55 for 45-50k, I think it would struggle and since the G60 is 68k, it is unlikely Ginetta could meet that price point. There was no malice intended in my post, only concern over the best way forward for Ginetta.
I don't think I have accused anyone of Ford bashing - I simply said ' What is wrong with the Ford V 8 engine ? '
I remember when Ginetta introduced their G 10 in 1965 - Ford Motor Company shipped six Ford V 8 engines - almost overnight. Perhaps some of you may remember its first race at Brands Hatch, driven by Chris Meek. He trounced all the other GT cars in the race.
Unfortunately, it was a ' bridge too far ' for Ginetta - because shortly afterwards the Carrol Shelby AC Cobra was homologated in the USA, and as a result the Ginetta importer had all his orders cancelled. But that is the ' way of the world ' - and it is never too difficult to upend small maufacturers - no matter how good they are.
If Ginetta had their time over again - would they still have used the Ford V8 engine ? - you bet they would have. Ford Motor Company still stands supreme.

Renaultgeek - you really DO need to brush up on your Ginetta history and read Bob W's memoires - the book is called 'Ginetta - The Inside Story'. To be honest, I don't share Bob's devotion to the Ford V8 either, and he would probably be offended to know that the G22 now has a Japanese engine, but the man does deserve a great deal more respect that you are giving him. Driving a tank out of a glider in the Allied Landings - Bob has been there, whereas the closest most of the people posting on here will come to that kind of commitment is on a video game...Bob W said:

Don't worry. There is not a remotest chance!
Bob is articulate, and kind. He is an honorable man of total conviction who, in the war, served with 6th Airborne Division.
He was wounded been taken prisoner on the occasion of the Rhine crossing, and incarcerated in a German hospital after the Cromwell tank he was in was hit. He had burns but more serious was shrapnel close to his spine (after being rescued by advancing friendly forces the fragments were removed in a Dutch hospital). He and others were flown back to the UK and in another twist he ended up in a hospital bed next to his war injured brother, Trevers from the parachute reg.
After the war the two, along with their other two brothers, set up Ginetta Cars Ltd. The rest is history!
I'd recommend you read his book (but then I would!) or his war memoirs.
Thank you dandarez - ( John ).
Yes - It is rare for me to take part in a forum, but the references to Ford engines, just got to me. Ford Motor Company deserve the supportive comments I have made about them.
Thank you for mentioning Trevers, John. Yes - he was in 6th Airborne Division too - the 8th Parachute Battalion. I have very fond memories of him. Rest-in-Peace, Trev. Perhaps, I should now mention Douglas - he was REME - a remarkable chap, very fond memories too. Rest-in-Peace, Dougie
I am 87 years old now, so will go back to my rarity posting. Perhaps Pistonheads deserve a mention - expressing an opinion at times, cannot be a bad thing - and as far as the motor indudtry is concerned - Pistonheads make it possible.

That's rather a great response. As ex 16 Air Assault Div myself, another reason to love Ginetta.
