Hi Chris

Thanks for the scanned article- that's helpful, just have to put it all together and see what the RAC says. I think Mark Walklett may also be looking into this

Many thanks for the heads-up on those G15s for sale. I had spotted them previously, but neither is precisely what I am looking for.

Many people offering them don't. If the preference is big rear window and MG door handles its easy for peeps to identify - My Chassis 100 has been referred to as a 1, a 1A a 2 and many refer to the big window chrome handle cars as 2's.

After scanning that mag article on that car I would be interested to know of there were cahnges to the double wishbone front end or that the writer just assume that G15's were an imp based kit and should have had swing axles and drums as standard.

'IF' Chrisd45 is the Chris I think it is, he'll probably know a thing or two about the G15, especially this one!

No changes to suspension. Mark Cole (writer) was experienced racer and still writes commentates on motor racing. Roger and Chris Davis uprated the front susp with rose-jointing etc. The car was of course an out and out racer.

Mark Cole did a full road-test feature on the G15 the year before (Dec 1971) in same mag HOT CAR.
The 3 page feature was titled GO GINETTA! 98mph - 34mpg - £899 - It must be a bargain!
It was subtitled 'Best small sports car around today'.

He was dead right!!

There are always copies of this 71 issue on Ebay. Easily spotted by the front cover autocross car
Just had a look and as usual, a few copies - this one's cheap at £1.99 buyitnow (nothing to do with me).
Anyway, it's copied in the G15 Super Profile.

Very few Series 1 cars were made. It had a Imp steering col and early Imp twin ind stalks.

I have no idea where 1A comes from? No such thing.

Series 1 simply refers to the first few cars (as said, hardly any), after the Earls Court Show prototype G15 (this had MGB 'pull' door handles and a rear radiator, not used on any production G15s).

If a G15 has the larger rear side window it's a Series 3 (when the body was revised) - the vast majority of G15s.
The smaller side window is a Series 2.

Series 4 was after the imposition of VAT and was a fully built car (with the Marina door handles and other changes) it sold at £1395 or an extra £150 for the so-called G15S (998cc) until it ended production in 74.

There was a resurrection 4 years later when Art Allen commissioned the G15 Super S for the USA, it had body changes and grp bumpers and a flip bootlid and fitted with VW engine and transaxle, but it was hardly a success. The new front and rear grp bumpers proved more of a success and quite a few were sold to existing G15 owners - even I bought them!

Sorry but there's a slight difference at the front end with the suspension. Some chassis have a lower, and some have a taller shock tower smile

What steering column did the later ones have, if not Imp?

Of course Geoff. It was a bit late when I posted (yawn),
must get to bed earlier (don't look like I'm gonna do it tonight either or should that be tomorrow? wink.

Meant Imp column but with early twin stalks.

Knowing the old Ginetta it's a wonder any two G15 chassis are alike! biggrin
Sorry Walkletts, I didn't mean that. biggrin

I remember the top wishbone mount holes higher on one (later?) car than on my two 1972 cars, but the tower height was the same.

Good news for G15s: there's a 5 page review on Practical Classics issue on sale this month, it's about Mark's orange G15.
Another article is due next month on PPC, about Chris' green turbo G15.
It's time to dig into those dusty boxes and drawers and help us find papers and photos about G15 in (internationsl) races!

Thanks Paul, I wish I was there.
I'm missing the yellow one, and I've never met the blue one...

It looked good! I was tempted to throw it on the trailer. However, your mould should be ready in a few days smile

Come spring, we need to hire Blyton or somewhere and bring all the Ginetta's for a bit of fun.

Blyton? Isn't it a little too up north for me?
Why not SPA? ;-) It's right in the middle of the road and it's a neutral field.

Might be a bit quick! Although I'd be really interested in comparing lap times between the G17 and G18.

If you want to compare lap times, you'd better drive the G17 by yourself.
I'm not a racing driver and never drove a single seater, that's why I'm looking for a trackday more than for a real race.

Get a race licence! I imagine the G17 is a bit lighter and revvier, but the G18 is a bit more torquey.

When are you ovet to collect the cars?

I wonder if any of those magazines will turn up on Ebay. I don't think they are sold in the states. Turbo G15 below.

Does the G15 handle 6'2" people okay? Any LHD ever made? Every once in awhile I get bounce towards importing and hot rodding one of these cars instead of an Elan.
