Roger (or Geoff, if you know?),
any idea what the alloys were (make), fitted to the G10 you owned?
Assume Rod L fitted them?

Roger, I remember seeing your G10 in the early 1980s driven by Tony Hill. Do you know if he actually owned it, or was he driving for Rod Leach or Tony Thompson?
Geoff
Rod Leach acquired the car and carried out a major restoration and registered it as 4ROD. Earlier the car was a different colour and I seem to recall it may have been signal red. That would match the appearance it has in early black and white photos before it was converted from roadster to coupe. I believe that Tony Hill was merely the driver, although I do not know for certain. I reside in Singapore but a lot of my G10 archive literature is in Australia so next time I am down there I will see what relevant information I can retrieve and post on the forum. Geoff
As far as I remember, Rod Leach sold the G10 in August / September 1979 and it was indeed purchased by Tony Hill. I had tried to "borrow" the car from Leach for the GOC stand at the Alexandra Palace Classic car show that year. Leach explained that the car had been sold to Tony Hill. I contacted Tony and rather to my surprise he was more than happy to lend us the car. Much to everyones amazement, he arrived at the show and drove the car to our stand - it was incredibly noisy inside the hall and most of the other cars were pushed into place. He gave me the keys and left it to us. Rod Leach was one of the concours judges that year and had to decline the organisers request to judge the G10. We were informed that the car had scored very highly and was not far off being best in show, it was a hugely impressive machine. Tony returned quietly on the Sunday night picked up the car and that was that, he couldn't have been more generous.

I do not know the make of the alloy wheels that were on the car when I bought it from Tony Thomson. The same wheels were on the car when I sold it. At the time I bought the car Tony told me the previous owner had been a man fro the Worcester area.
After checking my Ginetta archive I have unearthed some solid facts about the owner history of the G10 - Serial Number 001.G10 GT OWNERSHIP UPDATE
First owner was Ginetta Cars.
At its first outing in October 1965 at Brands Hatch it was driven by Chris Meeks who won.
The car changed hands a number of times and was converted for street use before Tony Hill acquired the car from a dealer in Wolverhampton. Tony had the car extensively rebuilt by Andy Rouse Engineering in preparation for the 1981 racing season. Suspension modifications were carried out at that time. Compomotive Split-Rim Wheels were fitted (6 x 15" front, 7 x 15" rear) shod with Dunlop racing tyres. The car bore registered number EPP989B.
Rod Leach owned the car at some time and it bore registration number 4ROD.
The car was still of the same appearance and specification but bore the registration number EPP989B once again when I bought it in 1986.
HOT CAR ARTICLE ENTITLED "SNAKE IN THE GLASS"
Hot Car magazine carried a four page article entitled "Snake In The Glass" which described the G10 GT at the time it belonged to Tony Hill and included a track drive. Attached are four images scanned from an original copy of the magazine in my possession. They make entertaining reading.
This ought to build up a fuller picture of the history of the G10 GT.

They were fitted when Tony Hill owned the car, circa 1980, and were still on the car when I sold it in 1989.

Here's the real G10 at Silverstone
Geoff
G10 Ex Works Competition Car: Chassis No.001Geoff
As a former G10 owner and user in Britain for some three years in the late 1980’s I have read the submissions on the topic with some interest. There seems to be a dearth of factual data about ex works G10 competition car and G10’s in general.
I bought the car from Tony Thompson Racing at Shoby near Melton Mowbray and he told me that the previous owner was from the Worcester area. My car bore a brass plate stamped chassis number “001” and was road registered as EPP989B in the U.K. at the time I acquired it in 1986; although I do know it was formerly registered as 4ROD when it was in the possession of Mr Rod Leach, owner of Cobra specialist dealership “Nostalgia”. In its original 1960’s form it was a convertible; only later having the coupe hardtop grafted on. It earlier had bright red coachwork, although the car was refinished in Rolls Royce ‘Regal Red’ with a gold stripe before I acquired it.
My G10 was the car illustrated on the cover of the book “Ginetta, The Illustrated History” by John Rose that was first published by J.H.Haynes & Co.Ltd. in 1983 (ISBN 0 85429 384 1). That book contained a photograph of another G-10 Coupe with standard bodywork (plain wheel arches) and wire wheels and bearing U.K. registration number JGF295D. I heard rumour of a third G10 that was exported to Venzuela years ago. Never did I hear of more than a total of three (3) G10’s originally being built .
As 4ROD it was track tested by Hot Car Magazine (around 1980) and reported in an article entitled “Snake In The Glass”. A
In 1989 I sold my car on through Tony Thompson Racing and believe it was later exported to the U.S.A.
