[quote]The revolution 4 spoke is a nice design but maybe not period 60s, more a 70s wheel.

Revolution Wheels were founded in 1967
If you want really light wheels then Mike Barnby Engineering http://mb-racingwheels.com/index.htm make some proper mag wheels (at a cost)

these are the only ones that wil fit a g4
they are probably a modern day version of the minilite...
weight: less than 3.5 kg!! used on the caterham r500
can be back mounted so that the 'slots' on the outer part of the cast centre are hidden
cost: £250 each.. ouch!
i like them though.. but are they too modern?
im sure i have pic of ginetta with revolutions.. ill try find it

Sorry Geeeman, I should have mentioned that they need crack testing every so often and more care than the 'average' wheel.... I did say 'at a cost' though so I got that right although my Image split rims cost £250 each (well, they cost the previous owner that and he bought two sets!.) It all depends how serious you are about 'lightness'
Having said all that, I do know a lot of Caterham owners (to whom lightness is paramount) who have these wheels and provided they're looked after they are fine.

one of my fave G4 pics.. i like the revolution look,a bit different to the regular minilite look
Image do these and of course revolution so i will enquire bout split rim version.
I want light-weight but crack testing the wheels regularly is a it too much headache.. also saw in the caterham forum the r500 wheel has been known to suffer catastophic failure.. yikes!
hi..
just waiting to have the engine rebuilt now, everything else is nearly done. All suspension re-chromed, axle/diff refurbed
On the wheels, i think ive decided not to go with 3-piece. Revolution no longer make any 3-piece wheels, but their standard wheel is very light 4.5 kgs, so i might just go with that (£90 each)
also just a single outer replacement rim for a 13" split rim from image is about £85...
minilights seem to heavy and i think the revolution will give it a nice look, i also have the original steel wheels of course

My 65 Round tube Chassis #198 wheels are Panasport 5,1/2" J x 13", I had them powdercoated Black.
The coater had to process them a couple of times before I was happy with the finish.
The wheels arn't particularly light but I think they suit the car and are well finished castings in standard form.
I will get another set for my other G4, the Panasport casing surfaces are good quality and take powder really well.I'm not connected in any way with Panasport, just a satisfied customer.
65ginetta i like the wheels
standard panasports arent light, but they do a 'ultralight' version which i enquired about. 1200 euros for 4...!, which is more than cost of modular wheel in UK
Btw your rear arch has been adjusted alot but on 5.5J wheels did they not fit under the bodywork when standard?

quick update,
engine sent off to Scholar engines, found that the original block and head all good, and a nice set of pistons came with the engine.
Aim is to get it to around 140 bhp
Gearbox being rebuilt also
The original 5.5J steel wheels were v badly corroded which i wanted to use for road use, so i bought a set of narrow midget steel wheels (4J). I sent these off to weller wheels who cut the centres out and are welding them in to their 5.5j steel rims with correct offset for G4.
Hope to have the car ready before spring, wil post more pics when i can
