A torque converter auto doesn't have this issue as it will (usually) crawl along immediately due to the continuous torque even at idle speeds.
Most (all?) torque converter autos drop into neutral at standstill these days. Some are better at getting going than others, but delay from rest was quite an issue when Mercedes first moved to 7 speed boxes from their well-regarded 5 speed jobs.

5speed 'box i'll go have a nosey round tomorrow or friday i think
If it's a 5speed, it's an iB5 - not a Powershift. Manual.

I have no idea what ground effect said however that car sounds like the piece of st we drove, be sure to give it a proper test, slow and coast for a roundabout/junction without stopping then go and find a hill, those were two things i made a point of testing and on both occasions it was hideous when compared to Volvo/VW/Mazda and even Vauxhall!

I have a 23k miles 2010 2.0 TDI Galaxy Titanium X with Powershift.

10,000 miles driven and it's been spot on. Did he gearbox oil change last month which was £290 at Ford dealer.

Fuel consumption is a bit rubbish but is markedly improved using manual control.

Notable is the fact that the first owner had the gearbox replaced under warranty after two years (circa 3000 miles).

I'e had a few torque converter auto hire cars that have given me an annoying jolt when coming off the brakes, a (brand new) Citroen C4 Picasso in particular, and others that are seamless.

Isn't it meant to be 5dr not 5spd?

5spd is a typo. It's a Powershift Dry-clutch.

Do you have any comments on the longevity of the clutches in the wet clutch version? I'm curious how long I can expect mine to last. I'm very mechanically sympathetic smile

Won't the Fabias have the dry clutch version, barge and pole personally. Which is a shame as the Fabia is a great car.

I've never been in a torque converter equipped auto that had a noticeable delay in take-up when lifting off the brakes, but have noticed it in dual-clutch boxes. YMMV of course, some people find it more of an issue than others.

I take it this is bad ?
I'll make him aware of it they are my62&63 plate cars he's seen, both at main dealers

While we're on about different cars, any alternatives or ones that anyone would recommend (not French though)

Budget of up to 10k I guess

I've had it in modern MB's and BMW's (7G, ZF8) as they both pull away in 2nd gear in normal drive and seem to need to wind up a bit before getting going at times.

Best way around it is to stick the gearbox in sport so it uses 1st, or manually change down into 1st with the paddles/stick.

The best auto box around is the ZF 8 speed as fitted to the 1 series.

Funnily enough I've just thought about a 1 series, would need to be a 5 door though,

Just called him about it and his only reservation was 'it's rwd no good in the snow' told him to go buy a set of winters 😂

You can get the 1 series with X Drive and the 8 speed auto but you'll need at least twice your £10k budget.

Re the Powershift, my retired in-laws have a Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost with this 'box and they love it. It's the first two pedal car they've ever had, and they both love driving it. Been 100% reliable over the past 2 yrs.

If the telephone deal for the focus falls though he has 1st refusal, they did say they should be getting another one in a few weeks, but i think we'll go have a look at a few 1 series in the mean time see if he likes them and is willing to part with a bit more cash,

I've never been in a 1 series what's the rear seat space like ? As they still ferry his mum (94yo) around a couple of times a week

Rear space is fine (I can sit behind myself comfortably IYSWIM) and I'm a smidge under 6 ft but it is fairly low which could be an issue for the elderly...

I came from a 14-plate Focus and the 1 series feels more spacious.
