Mondeo mk4 - questions

Hi all

Looking at some Mondeos (specifically with the 2.0 petrol, manual) as a car to commute to/from university next year. Insurance is coming out very reasonable which I'm sure is down to the old man image but never mind!

Is the 2.0 generally reliable & is there anything to particularly look out for? Also what rough economy can I expect - doing around 30 miles per day 75% motorway
Are there any must have options? I think the budget will be around £5k which looks like it should get me into a Titanium X? Do any of these cars come with bluetooth streaming?

Get one with parking sensors. Seriously. They are big old buses.

Common issues include rear trailing arm bushes splitting at high mileage, cruise control buttons wearing out and lumbar supports snapping.

Mine has Bluetooth streaming as part of the satnav unit. Not sure if that is universal for all the audio systems.

I can’t tell you about the petrol engine, but my mk2 2.0 Mondeo used to get 34 MPG.

Bluetooth streaming was 2010 onwards. You can retrofit it without too much fuss though.

My misses has one the 2 litre is a bit juicy but it rides ok and has a massive boot.
It hasent got parking sensors which is a pain.
Would it be pre wired for parking sensors as it really needs some fitting.

I have two Mondeos...54 plate and 62 plate. I love them.

Got the first one at 17 too.

I've had a 1.6 petrol Edge for the last four years and it's been generally very reliable. Being the base model it comes with front electric windows, electric mirrors, CD player, heated front and rear windows, ESP, ABS and cruse control which is a lot of equipment for a base model. Only issue I've had is flickering dashboard lights. This is a know problem 'dashboard cluster failure', started with the occasional flicker and progressed to a constant flickering (only noticeable at night). One of these annoying issues that no one wants to fix.

Car is very well build, handles well, only wish I went for the 2.0 petrol rather then the 1.6.

And far better than the mk5that replaced it.

My experience is all diesel but from that side they are bulletproof having put 400k on one with only rear axle bushes being an issue

Well engineered cars that are as well put together as any of their German counterparts from the same era
