Personally I think the ST170 is looking a little dated.
The Fiesta ST is a cracking looking car especially in white with side strips (not a fan of 'over the top')
Are you blind? I cant think of a single way the Fiesta looks better than the ST170 hehe
All personal choice ofcourse!

However NO I am not blind, and the MK1 focus shape (one in question) has been around since 1998 I believe. The focus was sharper than Ramsey's knives in the early years, but now I find it bland and lacking the same sharp, edgey lines as the Fiesta.

I also think the Fiesta has a more aggresive stance on the road, Its taller, but has deeper bumpers,17" alloys that fill the arches to a suitable amount and generally more striking.

The focus isnt ugly, I just prefer the Fiesta.

Fair enough beer

Must admit I much prefer the Focus ST170 to the Fiesta, its a bit more stealthy, yet somehow, to my eyes looks much better and more car like, compared to the fiesta which to my eyes is almost bordering on looking like a mini MPV. It appears to be quite tall and narrow, and has a van like shape. I like the alloys on the focus better too. Also much prefer the dash in the focus and just think that it offers a better package.

The go faster stripes make the fiesta look like a silly boy racer car.

Focus ST170 every time. Had both and the ST170 is just so much more refined. Focus tank holds 55 litres and the Fiesta 45 litres. I can get over 300 miles out of my ST170 and thats with a supercharger, and even had it just shy of 400 miles on one run. More boot space, 45 profile tyres for a better ride, better interior, decent cup holders, switchable TC or ESP. The Fiesta is a lively ride, though Ford have improved it, the back end can be skittish and the gearchange isn't as smooth. Power doesn't really come on full till about 3000rpm and can sometimes feel a bit sluggish below this.
If economy is your prime concern, then the Fiesta would be the car of choice, but if you want to give it some beans occassionally it will suck fuel.

i had looked at st 170's before was thinking bout getting one but went for fiesta st. i personally think its a much better looking car than the old st170's they look dated now, still a nice car however. but i think the interior is alot nicer on a new fez. i dont know your age so this might not be a big factor but is for me as im only 20, insurance on a 170 is a group 16 a fez is group 13.
dont quote me on this but id imagine a fez is cheaper to service and buy tyres for etc plus as far as im away its one of the cheapest cars on the road for fixing bumps. ethier way two nice cars
Fez??

I'm an ST Fiesta Owner, so hopefully I can be of help.

I can only comment on the Fez.

In short the later you get the better for interior looks.

The Fez needs a 6th gear for extra economy IMO. 35MPG is not out of reach for a 70MPH cruise on the motorway.

The tyres 205/40/17 from memory, will be dear enough.

I have filled the Fez with 5 adults without a major problem. They are a little bigger than you may think inside.

I haven't had any problems with mine so far. Well shy of a poor fitting rear light (like that when delivered).

However, I can be quite honest. Its a very good all rounder car. It's problem (if you see it as one), it doesnt have one extreme feature to make it stand out. The engine is good, the looks are good etc etc nothing is exceptional. It is a jack of all trades really.

It isn't a big torquey car, bare that in mind for a drive. However the torque delivery doesn't help, with a very flat plateau of torque. There are no massive kicks in power.

The boot is well, what you may expect, the Focus' would probably be bigger.

The brakes are rather good, they use the ST170 callipers with smaller discs.

The gearbox has a nice, short throw.

The rear end will allow for a light bit of slip in hard cornering, hard braking or lift off oversteer. Not a big problem IMO.

Ask away if I can be of more help. I hope that seemed quite honest about the car.

IMO I am very pleased with the car.
