Christ, nobody is in any kind of rush are they.

I thought this istream stuff meant you could pop up anywhere and be quickly building cars.

It’s not mass production. Rent a big unit and get cracking.

Where’s the momentum?

Are we sure this tender is actually for the TVR facility ? The welsh government must know by now that this company doesn’t have the necessary funds to go into production so I very much doubt they are rushing on the factory front. This business needs a rethink to a sub 100 cars a year facility and cost base . I think that’s what’s going on behind the scenes .

That's going to be a long wait for some deposit holders.

At least the questionnaire is due this week (as announced per last update).

Q1.

How long are you willing to wait for your 2019 Launch Edition Griffith?

1. I am happy to wait until 2020
2. I am happy to wait until 2021
3. I am happy to wait until 2044 as I guess I will have to do the "full" term because I'm gonna KILL SOMEONE if that bloody car is not ready next year!

Just as an aside, was in the company of an all grey with cream interior, i8 roadster Saturday, I know it's hybrid and all that, but I must say, really turned me on - reminded me of the lambo mimicking BMW M1, this looked every inch a supercar.

Lots of choice Les, just ask Gordon to build them now please.

I think by 2020, Brexit will be in full swing and if TVRs STrAtegY REMAINs the same, orders are going to get cancelled.

TVR will not be competitive when supercar prices tumble so this "news" better be damn "worthy".

£4.5m is hardly a light refit. Unless that refit is high spec or the quantities involved, particularly with the cladding, are very big.

The value in the notice will be set very high - they don’t necessarily expect it to cost that much, but (from memory) they can’t exceed the value in the notice without having to start again.

I don't get your post.

Are you serious about the sub 100 cars? So the deposthoders cars are made over a 5 year period before starting on the next customer cars ??

Indeed. And the car game seems to move at an alarming rate of knots these days. Risk is the car is already behind the times when it finally hits the streets.

What is the lifecycle of a model these days? At this rate it will be overdue its mid-life facelift when deliveries start.

I’ve generally tried to refrain from responding to your posts as I think you’re a troll. But this is just hogwash, even for you.

...The tender is to deliver something that looks like this in Aug/Sep 2019. This is presumably what the Welsh Government will be handing over to TVR.
So manufacturing to start in spring of 2020.
Empty shell this is the easy bit ! now build a production line, employ a skilled workforce then predict orders for suppliers to bank role... now the hard work starts.

And that’s just the beginning. Then you need to ensure you don’t get returns, that’s costly. Reputational risk is far more damaging now than it was back in the day. The modern buyer just won’t tolerate poor quality, the tolerance threshold is much lower with the modern car. To make this more than a car targeted at enthusiasts it will cost serious money to manufacturer and by the time they are ready to fill that empty space the industry will have changed beyond recognition and they will be playing catch up.

I understand that there isn't a "line" as such. The assembly process will be a series of independent stations - in a similar vein to the Toyota assembly at Burnaston(?). The chap who organised the 'stations' for Toyota is helping TVR with something similar.

Bear in mind that prototypes are built by hand, I've been involved with a prototype build of cars (more than several), many people would be surprised at how easy it is to put parts together and end up with a fully functional car

Empty buildings are ideal for building low production numbers of cars, the jobs not complicated

The Griff prototype looks beautifully put together. I’ve seen all sorts of photos and videos of it and have never seen any imperfections of fit or finish anywhere.

That's basically the opposite to a Toyota 'production line' model then - Toyota knock a car off the line approx every minute - it's astonishing! I used to work there in a previous life - Automotive consultants love a bit of 'Toyota' on the CV. smile

For TVR, assembly stations are clearly a much more practical (/cheaper) approach.

Anyone remember the assembly line for the McLaren F1?!
