Hmmm. That's hardly 'hanging the back end out', more 'booting it and accidentally losing traction', surely?
sounded good though. Like an angry bear lol.
I spied Jon’s Typhon a minute earlier.

For me guys it doesn't leave an impression like the cars of old... on track it looked more ordinary than ever IMO yes it was there with the likes of the Zondas but still lacks the Cerbera, Sag and others Charm and Menace.

Is there anywhere I can read more about that car? The Typhon 'story' has always intrigued me but admittedly I don't know much about it..

There is a whole website but you’ve just reminded me that it’s been down for a while!

The Wiki page contains a reasonable amount.

I'll seek out some more info, but that linked thread above was a great read, it's a really interesting topic, the T440/Typhon story..

I promised to get the old website back up and running a while back and never got round to it. Managed to find some cached pages and quickly whacked them into a WP so it’s all back up now:

Memories..., I had a T550R on order back in the good old days when TVR design lead the automotive world. I remember the launch of the Tuscan R at the Motorshow and seeing the T400, T440R and the the first Typhon in build at the factory. Missing Sue and the lovely Danielle who made every visit at the factory very special. Missing Peter(RIP) and having a chat with him. Missing the people from TVR, so many memories. Glory days..., so many emotions and unforgetting memories. I'm feeling sad now, but also happy that I had the chance to live my TVR dreams back in the days.

Still think the Typhon looks more modern and for sure more unique as the new Griffith.

Hi Christof - they were indeed great times. I remember our chats here on Pistonheads, I remember talking to PW at motor shows and Ben, he understood how to push the customer side of things. Still got the pics of Danielle with my then new Griff 500 at the factory... p.s. I agree about the Typhon too, it encapsulates everything a TVR should be.

I remember going to see them at a show later when there was the red 400 and green 440 and putting a deposit down which I then moved to a Typhon when that list opened. That must have been sometime in 2001/2. I was still waiting when the factory closed in 2006. I knew of the existence of the orange Typhon and that became available to buy in 2010 and was back on the road in 2012.

So, I waited ten years to get my TVR. I have little sympathy for people struggling to wait an extra twelve months or so. biggrin

To me the Typhon was a huge step forward for TVR but they simply couldn’t make it for a price that was viable as it was hugely labour intensive as that was how the factory was set up, mass labour rather than mass technology.

A couple of years ago I took the car down to GMD for their team to look over. GM and LE showed me round the new project. What I left with was frankly huge excitement for the project. In many ways the new car is the next step on from the Typhon. It is basically built on the exact same premis of structural composites around a tubular frame, with a flat floor but instead of using huge man hours to construct, along with all the weaknesses of minimum wage labour it uses innovative modern technology to remove all those man hours and to massively increase build consistency.

When people say that this new car isn’t a TVR they forget all about the Typhon and how that was so different from any road TVR and such a big step forward. This new TVR is just following on from exactly the pinnacle that TVR was last at.

Although when you look at the front end of a Typhon... you instantly see TVR.. they were onto something with continuing that light configuration. It hasnt hurt bmw for 40 odd years.

It may have been but I’ve not heard from Bob for a long time and I’m aware than Jon is out and about enjoying retirement.

Agree but that light configuration only existed for a very short period of time at the end of a long history. Stick the Typhon next to any of the earlier cars and it’s very hard to see any obvious lineage.

For me it’s just the gurning smile of the window licker on the new car that I’m not a fan of. I thought it looked silly when Ferrari did it and when Lotus did it. My personal and subjective view is that the car should look pissed off not high on dope, with a proctologist at work. The rest of the car looks great inside and out and what’s under the skin is phenomenal and if I had a deposit down I certainly wouldn’t give two hoots if I had to wait a bit longer for what is going to be the last ever driver’s NA, big cc sports car and with a TVR badge!

Hi Rich, good to see some of the long time members. You've inspired me to read some of the old threads again. What a great and exciting time this was.
Couldn't remember anything in my life which gave me this kind of excitement and joy. C.
