You're right, it's a programmers oddity. I can't use % in variable names as it is the mod-operator and i developed that habit of using prc and it's making its way into daily use.

biglaugh No wonder I don't understand programmers, even though I've been in software all my life... You do talk in binary don't you?

This may be apropos of nothing but a friend of mine saw a letter to a friend of his that probably isn't connected but if it is it sounds like good news!

Apologies for not replying to your email sooner but I've been up to my ears in it. I write to you from the lobby of the Ritz Carlton in the “big apple” where moves are afoot that could save the day once and for all!

As you know we got into bed with the Taffy's with a view to setting up shop in the land of the leek. Things got off to a rocky start when they insisted on inserting a clause that gave them a right to ask for their moola back if certain conditions weren't met. Bloody cheek! Anyway the waters were further muddied by the jobsworth's in Brussels (I thought we were done with all that?) who are insisting that things go to “tender”, presumably in case the corrupt mayor of some impoverished city in rural Latvia wants to up the ante! What a bore! On top of that some of the deposit holders have started questioning the design and the perfectly reasonable 4 year delay and are asking for their money back. So all in all things are a bit squeaky.

The upshot is that we need some quick cash and it's a bit of a head scratcher. The board were next to useless, all claiming poverty and a lack of farms to hock etc.. Anyway by chance I was in the Cuckoo Club one night with Cyril and Monty and I bumped into a very pleasant cove called Tony who said he may be able to help. He told me a tale about some chappie he'd known called John Zachary something or another who got into similar hot water in the 80's in Northern Ireland and started getting heat from the Thatch. He needed a plan to raise cash pronto and came up with a wizard scheme. I can't remember the exact details but Tony is very familiar and he knows some “faces” (his term for investors) and he's helping.

Initially Tony suggested I talk to a chap called Guzman in Mexico who is familiar with this kind of situation and apparently has plenty of free cash. I tried to reach him but his people said he was temporarily indisposed due to some “business issues stateside” but he may be available before too long “depending on the speed of the tunnel”. Can't see what Eurostar has to do with it but hey ho, I'll wait for his call!

Having drawn a blank South of the border Tony then put me on to a young man in the US called Vinnie who seems like a top notch fellow. We had a good chat on the phone and things are looking up. He seemed very enthusiastic about the business and was interested to know how many keys I would need. Seemed an odd sort of question but I thought OK, anything to please an investor! Quick mental arithmetic said 500 deposits, 2 keys for each plus valet, total 1500 keys. So I told him 1500 keys initially and then hopefully three thousand a year. This got him very excited for some reason and he said he needed to speak to his Uncle Gino who was somewhere called Rikers Island. Some sort of holiday resort I assume? Sounds nice anyway and he mentioned that we may all be spending some time there if things go a “certain way”. Sounds like fun. Anyhow, he called back yesterday to say his Uncle was on board and could I come to New York soonest to meet with him and his chums.

So here I am, in the Ritz Carlton waiting for Vinnie to pick me up. They're very into family these chappies and apparently we're off down to “Noo Joisey” (wherever that is!) tonight to meet his Godfather, who seems pretty influential. Fingers crossed that it all goes well and we'll secure an investment. I'll report back when I have news!

Yours in Sport

L

M4tti...It was essentially the whole essence of the questionnaire. Dressed in between several lines of irrelevance.

The wide~body~racegoing~Doberman option has been solidly ticked at this end.

There was a question which asked how much we’re prepared to pay for such options.

Les.....
It ain’t an option !!!
We don’t want the semi~skinned version.
No one does.

Was the “what would you pay multiple choice or free format” ie did they have a figure in mind.
