Hello all,

Long time lurker, but been a while since I've posted.

The hood on my '96 Chim, after many years of love and care, has decided that its had enough.

Instead of repairing, I'm looking to replace the whole thing, including the covering on the hard top.

There is one 'go to' trimmer in our area who has done really good work on friends soft tops over the years, but when approached the price I was given was truly huge. Way more than friends had paid; I think, judging from the top of the range Range Rovers and Bentleys in the workshop that maybe they've moved up a league. biggrin

As I'm not a professional footballer or A list celebrity I'm looking for something a bit more suited to a middle aged bloke living in the real world.

So now I have a problem.

Where to go?

Don't know who you tried, but I've seen a wide range of cars here - classic pre-war, euro boxes and high end motors. Nobody in the TVRCC Dorset region who could give you some pointers?

He's very helpful too. I've had stuff done on my Tuscan by Wessex Trimmers in Southampton.

Thanks Nick,

Your link is the firm I got a quote from that was the thick end of two grand, which gave me the impression they're not looking for my kind of business.

I'll have a look at the other company though.

Anybody used these people?

they seem to have an office in Ringwood although the factory is oop north.

Ah! £2K sounds very heavy!

Not heard of Don Hoods. I'd try and get to a car club meeting and make enquiries there. Else you're into googling local trim shops and phoning around.

Wessex trim are good people. Had stuff done on my Tuscan done by them. Could be a bit of a trek for you though?

I'm sure it was these guys who put a rear screen in our Griff about 12 years ago.

This chap was going to do my Chimaera, before I sold it and bought the Griffith

They're not VAT registered which helps. He's got a really cool little workshop, usually full of interesting American hotrods and classics from the American place next door.

I think he quoted me around £1000 for the hood and carpets, all in.

A friend of mine had his Griff done at Pipers in Sparkford...near Haynes Museum. Made a very nice job of it.

Thanks for all the help folks.

I've fished about a bit and have decided to give Guy at West Country a go.

Really helpful on the 'phone and a sensible price.

I'll keep you posted.

Just a quick update for those of you looking for a trimmer.

I used Guy at West Country Trimmers down in Newton Abbot.

The new hood is real quality and as good as new.

Can't fault it and for a price that was a good deal less than half what I was quoted in the Poole/Bournemouth area (no names.

Well pleased.smile
