Hi all,

Finally decided to ditch the extenders and looking to go down the thermal sock route for the Griff. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced set?

Cheers.

You can pay loads if you want, I'm sure people will advise it. I've been running Lucas leads (importantly they are long enough to reach without extenders) and cheap ebay socks for two years including two touring holidays. As long as you ensure they are pulled tightly against the rocker covers you should have the thermal segregation required

Thanks both. Any idea about this suppression business? Are leads with suppression required or can I just boot up my OEM leads?

You need some resistance in the circuit somewhere, so if you are binning the extenders which may or may not be the resistive type, as well as running non resistive leads then I'd suggest that you run a resistive plug like BPR6ES or the iridium equivalrnt BPR6EIX

Is the resistance just to suppress crackling on the radio? I've been running without resistance for years

Thanks ukdj.

What plugs are you running Bobfather?
Pretty sure my extenders are the non suppression type.

NGK BPR6ES

I see now they're resistive. I still wonder why it has to be resistive. If it's just for the radio then it won't matter to most owners

So I'm going to replace the plugs with NGK BPR6ES. Anyone know if they need to be gapped or are they ok out of the box?

I always check but I've never had to alter them. I've fitted BPR6ESs each year for the past 6 years since I start self servicing

Should be factory set at 30 thou but probably worth checking before you screw them in

What he says ^^^^^ yes it's not just tv and radio your interfering with, I've read somewhere there's a risk to the cars other systems when using no resistors at all.
I use the BPR6IEX IRIDIUM and very happy with them. I also removed extenders and my neighbour used to complain his freeview went off every time I came past!! Good smile but a bit anti social biggrin since the iridium he hasn't said a word. I'd rather run without them as I'd assume a fatter spark but I couldn't see a difference with a cranking test and the iridium offer a big old spark that's for sure.

Thanks all. On checking I can see that my plug leads are resistive. This should be enough without resistive plugs?
