As the title suggests I have a very wet footwell at the moment. Tried all the usual suspects:

- brake fluid res
- wind screen seal
- grommets - except bonnet release

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Frostie

Wiper jets.
Sometimes get pulled up by some numpty mechanic or something and the grommet comes out or simply leaks over time. Nightmare to get at and you'll have to remove the wiper mesh to get at them if my memory serves me!

I was going to say throttle or bonnet cable as culprits. If you leave the car for sometime in the rain do you then get a gush of water on your shins when you move off suspect wiper jet pipes or windscreen seal. Pedal box bolts might be worth looking at but highly unlikely.

Just remembered,,,
Grommet fits into mesh, if pipe has been pulled or just come loose it can break the small mastic seal as the pipe goes into the car and leak through there and to check it you have to remove the mesh. Pita so last resort. Rivits pin the mesh in place in three places under the screen rubber,,, or the do on mine. You'll need to remove the big nuts that also pinch the mesh down at the wiper shafts. By removing it you can do a very good job of sealing both the jet pipes and the wiper shafts too so sort of well worth it,,,, if that's where the problem lies that is wink

And if your a pro you'll drop a blob of mastic into your rivit holes before putting new rivits back in to secure mesh back down smile

I found my problem when I discovered the carpet just below the door was wet then leading down to the floor. Replaced the seal but still the same. Then got help in this thread and problem solved.

Check the mastic around the break reservoir very carefully. Mine looked fine but leaked like a sieve! New mastic, dry footwell.

I assume the offending liquid is water?

Sorry for the late reply, had the in laws over from Sweden.

Definitely water. Looks like it's stopped. I've done a little exploration about the wiper spindles, but I cannot see any traces of water running down from everywhere. Almost like it's coming up from the bottom :S

Feel the carpet along the door sill. If it is wet then probably the door seal. If it is wet under the pedals then more likely the brake reservoir/wipers/washers/windscreen seal/pedal box bolts.
Best to get comfy inside then have someone gently pour water on the car at just one small area at a time. If its above the pedals you'll need a torch or good light to see the drips.
If its the door seal you will see water running along the V in the seal, directly under the door, then tipping over onto the sill carpet then on to the floor.

I've had the same problem. Soaking footwell after heavy rain. Apart from replacing the leaking car cover which had decided to disintegrate. My local TVR mechanic showed me how the water runs down the weather strip from the roof and then runs into the car at the bottom corner by the footwell. The solution is take the weather strip off and apply a bead of mastic inside the weather strip before refitting it.

Try putting a torch in footwell at night. Then look from engine bay in dark for signs.

Thats very interesting. Could you post picture of where to put the mastic please ? I cant quite figure out exactly where you mean but I think this could be a real winner. How did he show you the leak ?

I was interested in this too. I understand V8 to mean that you pull the seal off the car from the roof down to the sill. You then put silicon in the channel that holds the seal to the car. Then push the seal back into place so that the seal is waterproof on the reverse side where it attaches to the body? Think that makes sense idea
