Raft foundation due to trees in close proximity to build. Engineer specified 900mm deep across the site before putting the dolly in. I think it's overkill but they have to sign it off.
You're not kidding about overkill; I would have recommended a new engineer. Anyway you can sleep sound in the knowledge that it's not going anywhere.seeing the thickness of the raft reminds me of the 1st extension I built and experienced being the man between the planner, building control, builder and architect.
I ended up with the largest possible roof timbers, bolted together at double thickness and a nice bill for extras. it was all caused by one of them saying that the calculations were wrong. This became interpreted as the timbers being too small and then buying huge timbers and someone saying again "the calculations are wrong" and then doubling everything and bolting it all together whilst I was working away.
At least you know its not moving anytime soon!
