Where did you find the code on the VIN plate?

TVR used all sorts of paints even in wedge days, lots from ICI. You need to be looking at the original codes where they used good old cellulose.

Mine are both hand engraved too. I assume you Dan acquire blank VIN plates and re-stamp them so maybe it was changed following a respray? Any evidence of a colour change?

it has been resprayed. It was a metallic gray (they did not remover the bumpers to spray it) it's not red. It is also a federal car (i'm in Sebring Florida) not sure it that has anything to do with the stamps V hand engraved.

Thanks!

Mine (USA) are stamped. But I noticed the 450 originally imported through Canada was hand engraved. I'm guessing it was a US import requirement.

BTW, TVR only switch to the "international" 17 digit VIN in mid-1985.

Yeah I suppose that explains it, but bizzarely the engraved ones are harder to forge because you would be having to copy the handwriting of whoever did the engraving.

We should have asked out three esteemed experts who that guy was....

You could ask Malvern Larner the club Sec to look up the Vin info on the car as built.
He can be reached at secretary@tvrcc.com.
Very helpful with my Wedge.
