Whilst I have the seats out I'd like to repair some of the wiring under the seat.

Does anybody have any recommendations on what wire to use to use and any tips ?
At the moment I'm just thinking about the thin wires that go across.

Cheers

I used very big tie wraps and a piece of rubber mat between them and the foam to help stop the foam cutting in to them like it had in to the wires.

There are several threads on here about seat repairs. I tried to find you some but all the ones I found using 'search' have no photos in them. A big problem since photobucket went to subscription only.

The seats can be totally stripped using pliers, spanners and a socket set, if you're brave!

PM Mr Zigazaga here on PH.

He recovers and repairs seats and has just done mine and made a wonderful job .

+1 for the rubber mat idea. Night and day in terms of comfort..

Here's my thread from a couple of years ago. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Lots of good tips. Short term plan is to get the seat back in so I can drive her so its a quick fix for now and then potentially a bigger refurb later.

Rather than do the hessian and rubber combo though I'm considering a pair of rear automotive carpets, they are about the right dimension, have a fabric front and are quite strong. I'll then use some of the long cable ties as suggested for this first version. It all sounds quite Heath Robinson but it doesn't have to be long term and out of sight and all that... I'll take a few pics and if it works well post them up here for future use.

!! I don't think yours are too bad...when you see how min looked!

I found wire coat hangers provided a strong bendable wire replacement. I used white ones (painted red after I cut then because I had some red Hammerite). Just used them to clip the seat cover connections to, and then bought cheap webbing and clips from ebay to provide the support. A bit belt and braces and not neat, but works well....and the cable tie idea mentioned earlier works well...

Before...barely alive:

After, strange ...but solid, and works!

...also too the opportunity to restore the leather with the furniture clinic kit.

Good luck wink
