Well people are spark eroding the centres of their cams out on face book following his advice. Getting lower oil pressure but a “much smoother running engine” biggrin

The other character that’s turned up on face book TVR groups has the name “floyd-Davies”. Synonymous with quality engine builds hehe

Just read that BoJo wants to speed up greenification and that sale of new ICE's will be banned from 2030 on with hybrids being allowed until 2035 !

In addition to that, EU will introduce E7 emission standards by 2025. While not finalized, they seem to be pretty hard, called "effectively a ban on ICEs". Though it's an EU standard, the UK will play along that tune as well for sure.

The good news is, you'll all get cheap e-bikes biggrin

China wants to ban all pure ICEs from 2035.

Scania Trucks owned by VW investing 100million euros in a battery plant.

VW themselves are investing 73 billion euros in electrification and hybridisation.

UK to invest £1.3 billion in charging points.

The VDA (German Association of the Automotive Industry) is saying that if Euro 7 goes ahead then the combustion engine would be phased out from 2025.

No doubt a low volume car manufacturer will buck the trend and start producing ICE cars just before doomsday. smile

I guess even the exemptions for smaller manufacturers will come under scrutiny. Maybe they should decide to go fully electric. Financing would become a lot easier and in terms of social acceptance you'd move from Paria to Greta

Honestly its bad news for TVR and any people who might be thinking of investing
as you would know ICE is very short term with more large investment being needed
for electric solutions.

Seriously girls, get a grip. Go and have a slice of cake, calm down and get back to the housework. wink

There isn’t a car business in the West that doesn’t have hybrid and full EV plans ready to be delivered as and when the market is viable for it. Any business plan for financing will be focussing rather robustly on these changes and what the solutions are to be.

And as these dates for the UK have been out there for a bit of a while it really is a non issue to have them finally confirmed.

Si, but in terms of psychology it's still something. Same as the recent market-reaction to the news of the vaccine, leading to big jump albeit everyone knowing the news was imminent.

I remember writing in this forum that the move to the electric mindset would take place way sooner than expected and see a massive speed-up, but given the past 2 years and the public focus on climate discussion it is already "here". This change has now happened, although the ICE ban is still 10 years+ out and EVs are still sold in small numbers.

Did TVR mention EV in their funding pitch? I recall there being mention of ford and that they have hybrid technology (not that there was any evidence of a commercial agreement with ford).

A basic deck for a 5 year horizon? It’s not likely to be as in depth as a full business plan. 2035 has been on the table a long time and what happens in 2035 has not changed. The only recent change is that in 2030 your ICE will need to have hybrid technology. Which arguably is of no relevance to a higher end manufacturer who will be needing hybrid much sooner so as to attract the key urban sales given that this is where the bulk of wealthy individuals reside in and around etc.

Problem is, that ^^ is all just waffle. The important question is "where do the batteries go?"

Basically two choices:

a) Under the floor spread out - you can keep with a narrow and compact car, but it gets quite tall and the seating position isn't great for a sports car ( theTesla approach)

b) In A "T" down the middle of the centre tunnel and across the seat bases - you get a nice low seating position great for sports cars, but you car gets really pretty wide( Porsche approach)

I therefore can't see either being appropriate for the BIW that TVR currently have designed for the V8...........

Probably, but putting such a sentence in is mandatory. The thing has clearly been designed for a classic front-ice-engine. Still, i think there are options available even in such a case. But surely adjustments would have to be made for a true ev-layout.

If it ever happens, the electric version will gain a lot of focus and priority.

I'm not an expert in all of this but I can't help thinking that the EV idea is going to be a relatively short term experiment.
We can't keep mining rare materials to produce the quantities of batteries required.
Other types of non-greenhouse gas producing fuels would be a much better way forward.
There's a lot of short term political bluster going on in this country at the moment aimed at us hosting the conference next year.

It’s a lot easier to talk about these initiatives than it is delivering them.

In a semi rural area I can’t even get full beans broadband....

Hydrogen is the way ahead, its just taking a while for the Petrol producers to get their act together.
Its far more environmentally friendly too.

In the meantime lets enjoy our ICE cars.
