It's a very very weird thing. I've got a Chimaera 500 (and I've had a bunch of them) and a Golf R. I just know that in pretty much any situation the R trumps the Chimaera despite the numbers on paper. I'm sure my R would out drag my Chimaera in perfect conditions...add some snow and a few bends and goodnight Vienna!

Totally understand, and I’m not blindly bragging. I had the old girl rebuilt in 2011 due to a porous block.. new coscast block and the whole lump rebuilt by V8D... pretty much as far as you can go with a NA Rover lump without 8 ITB’s... Dyno’d a few times during development, power to weight, 0-60, top speed all better than the r.. don’t misunderstand though, I rate the Golf r very highly and it’s only on a bone dry straight road that I can get the better of it (good mate has one).. on track or twisties it’s far superior, but I’ve said on here a few times I really don’t care, I continue to own my cars because of how much pleasure I get from them and how they make me feel... but I think 90% of us here are probably the same in that respect Mind...if it comes to love only one car wins

. The haldex system and summer tyres won’t get you far in the snow and ice.
I used to have an R32. We got loads of snow at the time & where I lived had plenty of hills. My drive was proper steep and the R32 haldex was spot onI used to cruise up and down here without too much bother (photo kind of levels it out too)

In my Chimaera in the snow I've discovered gradients that I hadn't even noticed were hills in the past
It's OK as long as the road is wide enough to accommodate the 45 degree rear end out stance while getting up (extremely gentle) inclines in no-grip conditions... 2 sMoKiN bArReLs said:

That’s so true, I considered myself a dab hand driver in snow until I tried it in the Tvr. Wrong tyres for the job too. Scariest 10 miles of my life and never again

In other news, my new air fryer arrived this morning... this afternoon I shall be making doughnuts (in the air fryer) and chips tonight... Mmmmm...
Since becoming vegan (I know, I know) I purchased an air fryer for the missus and she's used it for all sorts of things like onion bhajis, crabless crab cakes, buffalo cauliflower wings and "carrot bacon". I was skeptical about the carrot bacon but it's actually not bad if you get it crispy. I find that French fries cooked in the air fryer are much crispier than those baked in the oven and the almost total absence of oil in cooking is much healthier.

Not sure Baconsarney will change his name to Carrotbaconsarney? Healthy doesn't feature much in his diet of chips and doughnuts it seems....
Gaah.. once again Iain I’m having to educate you... I very rarely eat fried food, but I love chips especially sweet potato chips (I often do sweet potato wedges in the oven)... and the doughnuts are for my young lady friend.... the air fryer allows one to occasionally have treats with only a fraction of the fat required by deep fat frying. But then I’m sure you knew that Oh, and I’ve just thought, that’s rich coming from someone who’s national dish is deep fried Mars bar....

later.......
Another delicacy is the Urick funnel cake ice cream sandwich. For this monstrosity, they dips Wick’s pie slices in funnel cake batter, deep-fry them and then cover them with powdered sugar and chocolate sauce.
At the Texas state fair they've been known to serve deep fried Bubblegum...
