I need to source a new thermostat housing for my S4C as one of the hose connectors has rusted and sheared off. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Is it the steel small connection that has rusted away?

I think you'll be lucky to find a good second hand one and very very lucky to find a new one!

I would suggest you either repair it or blank off the hole and use something like this to tee the small pipe in?

Thx for replying. Yes - it’s the small connector that’s sheared. I’ll take off the housing and see if I can use the inch that’s left intact if it’s going to be tricky to source. Do you have a part number handy? Is there a specialist who could fix it? Thanks again.

Anyone who works on old cars where you can't just pop out and buy a new part, should be able to do something with that.

Or post it to me, my fees are very reasonable wink

I'd have thought it possible to modify Burton Power's one? Remove the screw and a piece of suitable pipe soldered or brazed in? Just a thought. Or fit Philpot's bypass T piece as its blanked off anyway?

The rusted spigot is positioned to ensure a flow of water right at the thermostat as the engine warms.
I would suggest drilling out the steel spigot, tapping the alloy housing and fitting a brass hosetail of suitable size.

Glad someone is helping me avoid pot holes - very rarely use Piston Heads (which says a lot for the reliability of my S4), so apologies all if I have failed to thank you - all advice very much appreciated

eek Blimey, bit needy, nothing like a bit of self-appreciation is there. .. rolleyes
I read that simply as "Thanks (for offering me your seemingly very rare-and-hard-to-come-by spare one)", seeing as it immediately followed Magpies' generous offer.

Hi Magpies - thanks for the image and offer. Mine isn’t at 90 degrees so may rule it out. I have a question for all of your input if possible please. Here’s an image of mine - as you can see there is still a fair bit of the thin pipe to attach a hose to albeit it doesn’t have the bulge at the end. Would you stick with this housing?

Ford are nearly as bad as TVR - here's my spare which although has the same part number is different again..

If that's yours in the photo - I don't think anything has sheared - the small pipe is only 15mm which is enough to get the hose clip onto

Careful removing the retaining bolts, as they can shear, leaving an awkward steel bolt snapped in the alloy.

(Guess how I know that)

Thanks RayTVR - yes it's mine in the picture - I have a bendy one (?!!) - amazing how there are so many versions doing the same thing. Was in the garage at 7am expecting to do battle with housing bolts, jubilee clips & WD40 - all came off well which makes a change. Hopefully putting it all back together is as simple although when I blow through the cooling system I will probably create more problems!

Putting everything back together now - amazing how rusty the inside of the metal pipes are but no residue/bits in the flush through - would you use gasket cement on the metal to metal thermostat housing to block joint?
