"Thrills" will be back, pending pandemics, under the banner of "Thunder in the Hills" to reflect a new format and longer route, but maintaining a lot or the original character. Put 15th May 2021 in the diary. More info will follow,

The Thunder in the hills event has now been rescheduled for Saturday 26th June 2021. The original date would have still been inside the updated lockdown restrictions.

See the Blackpool Thunder website and click the events drop down index thingy - or direct link here

https://blackpoolthunder.com/thunder-events/#!even...

It should be a great day out. Loads of TVRs rumbling through The Peak District. Let’s hope we are allowed to go and we are not in lockdown 4.

The numbers registering for the event have been fantastic, but. If you are intending to go and have not registered yet, I would advise that you do so soon! Please visit the web page (https://blackpoolthunder.com) and go to "Events". Remember NO PAYMENT IS REQUIRED AT THIS STAGE. Payments will be taken on the day.

Keeping fingers crossed for no further Covid setbacks.

A bonus - make it a Thunder weekend! Anyone local or staying over should come along to our Drive and Meet day on Sunday 27th June at the splendidly located Hotel Rudyard, Rudyard, Leek, ST13 7SP from 1.00pm.

Let me know in advance in order bookings can be made.

unfortunately with the now 'compressed' calendar there will be clashes.

There is a group of TVR S's (plus the odd interloper) doing a South West tour that weekend and can't join you.

I hesitate to post this as I'm only on the cusp of getting back into TVR-dom. I have a question about the intended route for TITH in June.

A click on the link above shows a glorious shot of the top bends of the road from Barber Booth to Mam Nick. Surely the organisers are not suggesting this steep, narrow, windy lane is a suitable for a convoy of TVRs--or any other cars--on a summer Saturday? I'd go as far to say Edale generally is a poor choice for a route.

No busier than any other road in the Peak District on a Saturday. I've cycled up it many times and rarely been passed by cars. Similarly the Snake Pass. If the drive was on a Sunday, then it would be a lot busier.

So if your new back to TVR-dom, hardly a smart opening move to criticise the organiser of one of the finest events in the Calendar.

Where would you have us go??

Hi Madwud,
The TVRCC "Thrills in the Hills" event have never used that road up from Edale to Mam Nick, and never will. As you correctly say it's not suitable for TVR,s for many reasons.
The link is taking you to the Blackpool Thunder car club "Thunder in the Hills " event. I doubt they would be using that road for the same reasons.
It's a bit confusing if you have been away for a while, especially the statement above that says " Thrills will be back, but under the banner of Thunder in the hills" Thrills in the Hills will be back under the same TVRCC banner it's always had. But there are now 2 almost identical events in the Peak District run by 2 different car clubs.
The original TVRCC Thrills in the Hills on July 24th, which has been running now very successfully for many years, and the new BTCC Thunder in the Hills. Both great days out whichever one or both you choose. Hope this helps.
Kev.

Is your poorly-grammared reply a wind up for the new boy?

It is unfortunate that a contrary opinion upsets you but there are other users in the Peak to consider. Not the least cyclists, who use that loop precisely because it is car free.

What on earth would be the fun in taking a TVR up or down that road? It's windy, narrow and maxes out at over 20%. Would you seriously want a car convoy following you up on your bike? I like the sound of a TVR as much as that next man but not if I'm willing my front wheel round or plodding up Kinder.

Other roads? The peak is full of main roads where you can "make progress" safely. You could stay on the A623. The B6049 is also brilliant and Hope Road still has main road status.

This stretch of road is NOT being used on the route. The photo was intended to be a generic for the types of road that we will be driving on in the Peak District.

Hope this clarifies.

Ironic - that is the exact stretch of road, used for the photoshoot and article on my Tuscan in Februarys Classic Car Mag and mentioned in Mays Sprint :-)

So Boris has kyboshed us again which means we cannot go ahead with the planned events on 26th & 27th June.

So we will go for third time lucky and plan to run Thunder in the Hills on SATURDAY 21ST AUGUST and Richard Thorpe Memorial run on SUNDAY 27TH AUGUST. Again has to be pending Covid situation!

TVRMs - not sure what runs you have been on - but there are no single lanes or uneven surfaces on this route or indeed in my previous life with Thrills in the Hills. Have you actually done one of these? Because 132 cars came to the last event without complaint!

You will see from earlier post I did a recce run - that was on A & B roads, so try it before knock it!
