Hi all

Hoping someone can help out and explain what the electric levelling unit is on the back of the headlight and without sounding silly what it actually does. I see in the wiring diagram its for load levelling but what controls it as it seems a bit OTT for a tvr.

On my car the original dipped units had the motor......but the associated wiring was not connected!!

It won't be genuine. They only fitted halogen headlights to a MK1 because they did not require self-levelling or washers. They did fit zenons on main beam on the MK1 S, but these did not require self-levelling or washers. They parts will therefore not have bothered to wire up the self-levelling system.

If you have a zenon on dipped beam, then is an aftermarket part or it is a main beam from an S, being used as a dipped beam.

The car is an S but has halogens in the dip and main beam and the wiring is connected.

Then it isn't genuine, or someone has been swapping parts, because the main beams are supposed to be xenon.

And no TVR ever made it out of the factory with parts that weren't to spec, oh hang on.... smile

LuckyP I think Jet Fixer is looking for answers not confusion.
Without going through the hassle of quoting I read your posts as contradictory. Apologies if I'm wrong of course.

Know nothing about the circuit for your car but will look at the diagram in the morning if having free time

Looks like the motors are fitted and some of the circuit is wired

No position sensors, operating switch or control unit is shown

Very strange

So there isnt really any leveling going on. They dont actually do anything? Very odd. Am i suprised? Just wondered more than anything else.

As far as I'm aware, the 'S' came with HID main beams and 'ordinary' incandescent dip beam units - both supplied by Hella.

When I picked up a stone in my O/S dip beam unit a few years ago, I went to "Andrew Page" factors (Took over Camberley Auto Factors) and, at the time got the exact same unit from them. In their catalogue I noted that there was another variant with a levelling motor attached to the unit, but I chose to delete this option.
As Pen' advises, there is reference to 'load levelling' on the circuit diags. and on the fuse board....but in true Blackpool fashion, it didn't seem to be used?

It looks like a basic manually operated levelling system, there is a plug J30 on page 10 of the drawings (also see J10/J15) which comes back to the dash area, the signal wire is blue/orange, without a pot/variable resistor here to supply power to the motors the circuit is incomplete although it could be retro fitted.

I have owned the Mk1,2 and 3 (but not the 'S' version) and haven't come across any hidden pots, so still pretty much in the dark smile

There isnt much in the unit. Just a motor and a limit switch for it by the looks of it.

Very nice, found a couple of motors yesterday, this saves me from having to break them apart

This should do the job (been wrong in the past though???)
