About to rebuild engine, the liners were deglazed and honed as they were still in spec for taper and roundness

Question is some of the silicon sealant has come away from where the liners presses into the block, I think the rest will easily come away.

Can I reapply sealant around the base of liner or do they need to come out, apply sealant and press back?

At a minimum you need to check the height of the liners above the block.

Best practice to get liner a few thou above block. Steel straight edge and feeler gauge?

Bump.....

Is it obligatory removing liners with the engine out. They weren’t a problem beforehand but the sealant has peeled away, no signs (as you’d expect) with the oring in the liner.

If you do remove them, then assume it’s a case of reinstalling viton seal (as a strip), cut to length and short glue the ends. Then apply rtv sealant and then push back into place but with 4 thou clearance from head?
