TVR Sourcing & Pre-Purchase Inspection
Discussion
Bit harsh I'm sure he liked you too.
To add some balance, I used Rob Ingleby twice albeit quite a few years ago (last time in 2008) and found him very knowledgeable, helpful and he inspected both my wedge and Griffith 500 and recommended I should buy.
Both were excellent cars that I kept for 5 years and 13 years respectively and never had any great issues which in my mind made his service worthwhile.
Sorry to hear your experience wasn't so good, mine was great!

As I said, very easy to pass off an already good car as sound. To add some balance, I used Rob Ingleby twice albeit quite a few years ago (last time in 2008) and found him very knowledgeable, helpful and he inspected both my wedge and Griffith 500 and recommended I should buy.

As I say I've not used him, only have read a report he compiled on my car a few years prior to me buying it.

Phil Phedonis knows his TVRs and offers a mobile service. He's London based but was happy to travel to The South Coast to inspect one for me. Very thorough and a full written report.
Phil once told me in no uncertain terms not to buy a Chimaera that was a basket case. I hadn't actually seen the car, so not sure if it was obvious, but certainly seemed to know his stuff. rigga said:

So how do you know a good car is a good car until it has been inspected?. When i bought my 400SE it was already 12 years old, it looked nice in a photo but it could have been carrying all kinds of expensive hidden st. Rob told me it wasn't, he was right. The Griff ditto it all worked well for me and others I know who have used Rob.Stever said:

Hi CHEJ, if you're that close to HHC it may be worth going in to see Tony and letting him know what you're looking for, it's entirely possible he'll know of a car that could be coming up for sale or may have something already in stock and not yet listed.
I decided I wanted to return to TVR ownership so enquired with Tony on a couple of cars he had in, both went before I could view but he kept me posted on possible cars and I picked up a Griff 500 from him a few weeks ago.
I bought my Tuscan from Tony, I was too busy to hunt for one at the time so I told him what I wanted and left it with him. A couple of week later he found me one and it was a beauty. I still have it eleven years later.I decided I wanted to return to TVR ownership so enquired with Tony on a couple of cars he had in, both went before I could view but he kept me posted on possible cars and I picked up a Griff 500 from him a few weeks ago.
