Shot in the dark, but anyone have any idea what Rover v8 I have, if the code is S81D.....A?

It's not in any list of codes I've looked at.

Cheers!

The only S prefixed Engine number Rimmer Bros has is S46D0000A as a Morgan +8 9.35:1 cr cfi ... so maybe one produced for Morgan ?
as you probably know TVRs tend to be 37 or 47 prefixes

According to my Range Rover book, an 81D engine is a Land Rover 4.6 litre, high compression, stripped engine, 1998-2001.

I assume, therefore, that it was originally from a P38A Rangie

Checking further, it was originally a 'Thor' engine, Cr 9.37:1, Bosch Motronic 5.2.1 management, 237bhp @ 4750rpm., 294 lbft @ 2,600 rpm.

Spot on! Thanks.

I have since had the sump off and it has the 4.6 crank.

Its a mish mash of bits as its running a carb and dizzy so has the oil timing cover and crap oil pump..
