Assuming no other work whatsoever, what do I need to budget to pay someone else to do the job?

I'm not sure I could manage to remove and refit it myself, working on axle stands

I can hardly pickup the diff when it's out of the car

In an ideal world I'd fit a Quaife, but I'm not sure I can afford that right now

Can’t answer your question but as an example
Two of us, one being competent and the other was me smile
Removed and re fitted the Dif in my Chim in about 8 hrs using a car lift and some help from a gearbox Jack but safely requiring two people to lift it etc.
Your local Tvr centre with experienced mechanics should do it in slightly less time.
I don’t think anyone in the TVR world work on the Diffs but can send it off for you.
I think £500 will get one rebuilt depending on repairs required.

I think book labour for diff removal and refitting is about 4 or 5 hours depending on seized bolts the cost of overhaul depends what it needs, I think grantura are the respected specialists, they did my 450 diff and were really helpful, I cant recall what it cost, if a dealer is doing it you may as well expect £1000

I've decided to rent a lift to swap out the diff with a replacement I've bought

8 hours sounds like you were stumped at some point, what happened, and what advice can you give me?

The replacement is a cone type from a Chim, what oil did you use?

I thought 8 hours was generous, until it took me 10 hours which was tragic!

I also used a lift, but just myself apart from the actual diff swap itself which there was no way I could do

Luckily there was a chap there who did it for me in about 90 seconds

I can't see how it could be done with axle stands

I managed to find a used diff from a Chim, which meant I could do a swap

The lift rental was £80 for the day plus money for tips, so not a disaster
