Mentioning Sportmotive TVR of Stoke-on-Tren

My classic is insured with classicline insurance. They have great story about Ben Coombs chimera being restored by the them. Ultimately this might be the only way to keep the TVR name alive.

I think there’s enough interest in the brand amongst young people, my son is 18 and is desperate for his first sports car to be a chim. He’s saving up and has a plan - hopefully by the time he’s 21-22 with 4-5 years NCB he might just be able to afford the insurance

Yep, my nephew's mid twenties, bought his Griffith earlier this year, following a series of MGs. His mum blames it all on me...

His Mum should be grateful he's not after a motor bike.
I am minus one uncle thanks to those killing machines.

Pie in the sky plan there. A 30 year old TVR with no safety features at 21/22 makes a motorbike seem safe.

Luckily he won't be able to insure it. This thread is from 20 years ago and people were talking about £thousands then, IF you could get cover

Well...he's got one of those too, but that's more down to his Dad...

This is not correct.

Insurance for a 97 Chim for a 26 year old with 8 years NCB is around £500.

TVR isn't in the 'puter.

Spotty Dave on customer service phone duty from his bedroom will have no interest in or knowledge of TVR.

Plenty of sorted Chims out there for you oldies to hand on to the youngsters

Just keep yourself on as a named driver and limit the annual mileage to 5000 or less.

Bear in mind that the car will be declared a write off for any repair if you do bend it.

Put it through at 21/22 NOT 26! How do you know where he is going to live? That makes a massive difference. Try Bradford compared with rural Scotland for example. What use is a limited mileage car to a 21/2 year old?

Fresh out of university. Job? Renting? Debt. Running a 30 year old Chimaera. Unrealistic!

I dumped Classicline this year. They dropped my no claims they'd previously accepted (and given), lost my declared modifications and trippled last years policy cost when all that was taken into consideration, despite showing them previous years policy with it on. Customer for several years, I've gone elsewhere now as it seems they didn't want me.

Ummm, recall a few years ago they did increase my renewal. I went on Footman James website, input identical info that Classicline had and got a much cheaper quote. Scanned the quote and sent it to Classicline, they came back with a quote cheaper than Footman James. Granted l was lucky that someone with a brain read my email.

There are some utter weirdos out there.

Pulling into an industrial estate with a Cerb on a trailer a disheveled older guy stopped his battered subaru outback and rolled down his window wanting to tell me something. Turns out he wanted to open with 'Oh a TVR...they're all just plastic pieces of st aren't they?' -

Obviously didn't rise to it.

But there are plenty of 60-70 year old men upset at how their life hasn't brought them the achievements that they envisaged as a kid who actively go out of their way to express their negative world view on very niche issues with no sense of their own context. In the hope for affirmation I suppose?

I get it a lot as a Range Rover owner too. Most are neutral or positive. A few are like that TVR guy (Including Jonny Smith of the Late Brake Show...which is why I don't watch him anymore)

A gorgeous blue Tuscan is a regular at our local Cars & Coffee and gets nothing but compliments from young and old alike. Everyone always stops to hear it go up the road when he leaves too cloud9

Proposed merger, not a sale.

Autocar reported on 03/07/24 that Charge Cars, makers of the electro-restomod 1967 Mustang had collapsed without a single £350K car being delivered. Autocar also reported that sibling company Arrival had gone into administration in February 2024. The companies were to share batteries, motors and control systems.

Autocar then reported on 17/01/25 that Charge Cars had been saved by a group of investors who planned to get the Mustang ready for deliveries and invest in the premises at Silverstone.

The Goodwood event referred to was in 2019, so the project has been going for years without any car being delivered. Another 10 months has gone by since the Autocar article and no one seems to have reported any cars being delivered.

I am not sure how merging two companies, one of which previously collapsed without delivering a car and the other seemed to be on the verge of it, also without delivering a car, is going to achieve success.
