Having recently bought a '99 Chimaera I really don't get on with the gearchange, especially into 5th. Having read many posts on this subject, I decided to have a look at the linkage.
This is what I found.

This is the support rod and it has been rubbing on the chassis. Out with Mr Angrygrinder and took a bit off. Seems to work a lot better with everything greased up. Low miles car, so no wear to cause this. Typical TVR one might say. Once all the (many) other jobs are done, we'll see what it's like on the road.

Have you got in the habit of selecting 4th before engaging reverse? This make the selection process much easier.

That’s a first. Never heard of this before.
What’s the gaps like between the manifolds and top of chassis rails.
Should be around 10 mm.
Could be something to do with sagging engine or gearbox mounts but that’s purely a guess.

I always use 5th because, to me, it seems more convenient but any forward gear has the same effect. smile

That is definitely sub-optimal

The only car I've ever driven that cried out for a sixth gear was my mates DC2 Type R
