Is anybody planning to go down to Le Mans 2002?

I recall someone once telling me that Le Mans is basically a monster-petrol-fest and well worth the trip, so a mate and myself are planning to hoof down in my Chimaera and soak up the fuel laden atmosphere.

So what's the best way of doing it? ...the TVRCC package or are there other, better ways (ie a bigger convoy of TVRs) of doing it out there?

Had the Tiv for a month and 5 days now and I am seriously considering this as good thing to do.

From looking at the old posts about it, it sounds like enormous fun.

I'm probably in!

Went for the first time last year and spent the whole weekend regretting not going before!!!

It's basicly a petrolhead's party that just happens to have a motor race going on around it!!!

Not to be missed EVER!!

When is Le Mans 2002? Sounds like it would be a great weekend...

If we could get a PistonHeads group together, it could end up to be quite an impressive convoy !

Cheers

Went to Le Mans on a mate's stag do in 1990, the year the Jags won, and it was the best three day party because the weather is normally fantastic, the noise is incredible and there's just a great atmosphere. 12 blokes in total – one big minibus and a 12-man tent – leaving room for beer and a barbi.
Left Dover at 9am Friday, got back midnight Sunday. Driving in Paris a nightmare of course but once you're the other side it's fine.

We went out about 4am to the corner at the end of the Mulsanne straight and it was incredible to hear these cars and just see these pairs of headlights coming out the black gloom, changing down rounding the bednand then haring out of the corner ... fantastic!

Would love to go back some day

TVR owner one day soon

I'm taking my 400se to next years Le Mans. It will be my first, and it will be roof down regardless of the weather! Possibly planning to go via either the Plymouth or Weymouth ferries and spending a day or so blasting some non motorways in Northern France before pitching up at the race. Anybody know how to get tickets, or even the best place to pitch a tent?

Cheers
Andy

Try www.justtickets.co.uk/jt_home.htm

I know they've been taking deposits from July.....or you could go with the TVRCC deal when that comes up.

Is there a specific campsite where most of the Tivs congregate? Or is there a "must be there" place to view the race from.
I really must calm down, it's 6 months away and I am already too excited!

I'm impressed and astonished to hear how many people on here have NOT been to LM yet.

I haven't been before.. but then at 23 I'd say I'm allowed to be a first-timer.

I'm trying to organise a group of us to go down - where do most of the TVR brigade camp?

Also, can anyone give me an approximate price for the camping? I have sorted prices for crossing, entrance tickets etc, but can't find information for camping prices. Any ideas where I can look?

What do the TVRCC sort out? Do they do the lot or just campsite? It’s something I’d like to do, I’m also told Zolder is good fun, any more that’s worth going to?

Six Speed - Houx Camping is the place to be. Fax the ACO direct on 00 33 243 84 47 13 and tell them how many places you want and they will fax confirmation back to you by the end of this month/early Jan. They'll request payment around March time. Price is 500ff per car(or was this year). Next year will be my 22nd consecutive year, which makes me the same age as you on my first visit! The difference next year is the first trip to the race in my Chim 450 - can't wait! See you all there...

What do the TVRCC sort out?

Not sure, but according to the TVRCC website, details will be sent out with this months 'Sprint'.

Also, and I quote 'Don't forget also to sort out your ferry bookings.' so I assume that they don't do that bit!

Went 2 years ago with the wifey in the Chimaera, and would recommend to anyone! Its one of those things you should do if you possibly can, you will never forget the experience.

With a little luck we should get to go again 2002, but it will have to be in the A8 as there's three of us now.

Not sure how little Alex will take to it, but he loved Rockingham earlier this year. Get this, I wore my TVR sweatshirt the other day and he pointed at the emblem and said "Car!". Pretty good for 20 months!

OK - do the ACO understand faxes in English?

Also do I need to book a place per person travelling, or just per car/tent?
