Hi Guys, just had a look through all the paperwork that came with my T2 Vert 2006, and there is a standard Tvr headed document with a large DVLA paragraph that says my chassis number complies with 'low volume type approval' and registered as PLG and not PC, ie officially environmentally friendly (chameleon) green, if you want a copy pm me your address and i will post it out, or if i can find a scanner later will post it up on here. drivingredcard

I've got one of those aswell Ceri, they were supplied to the first owners when the car was purchased. Didn't prevent mine from being classed as a PC.
As I stated before, I had sucess 2 years ago, by simply returning my V5C to Swansea.. and telling them they had simply made a mistake...accompanied by 6-9 registrations of similiar Speed 6 cars of the same age (which were all PLGs).
With the more recent success stories, it should be a lot easier now.

Hi Glowworm, was it Tvr or the dealers who supplied the cars when new, that put them in the PC tax bracket?

Good to see a precedent has been set, DVLA in their favour always guaranteed to be consistently inconsistent! rolleyes

Mine was ordered as a dealer car, then the dealer went bust, so it became a factory car, then a new North West dealership was awarded by TVR , and I had my arm twisted to have the car supplied by the new dealer. So in the end, the first registration was done by the dealer at the local tax office, at least I think that's what happened. It all happened within the final week of delivery, 'cos my personalised plates were actually made at the factory and bear the TVR logo and address.
Here's my Ministers Approval Cert for Low Volume Production...guess it's the same as yours other than the VIN.

I was told that the manufacturer supplies a form (Homologation ??) which is required by the DVLA for the first time registration. Maybe someone at TVR made mistakes on this form. My reasoning for this is.. Where on earth did the DLVA get the CO2 emmisions from ?? If it wasn't TVR... When its classed as a PC on the V5C the 302gm/km appears.

Just got mine changed successfully - sent letter to DVLA with registation form and 5 weeks later I got it back with class changed to PLG. Letter contained examples of other Tuscans with PLG status together with an explanation of why classification was wrong and the reference number of the successful chap on this topic.

This is a direct quote from the advice currently on the HMRC website ( http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/EIM23360.h...):

"EIM23360 - Car benefit: when does a car have an approved CO2 emissions figure?"

....... "The level of CO2 emitted by the car on a prescribed test cycle is one of the factors recorded during the type approval testing procedure. Very small manufacturers (for example, TVR at the time of writing, February 2003) are excluded." (this is about third of way down page)

So TVR is excluded (in their own words)...

I appreciate that this is related to benefits...but the facts seem plainly related to road taxaction too...

Great! - the more owners that go through this, the easier it is getting.

I think I've final found the reason why this has occured for some vehiles...When a car is first registered, a manufacture (well TVR for definite) supply a Form (sorry can't remember the number V55 something IIRC) to the dealer which then is taken to the Tax Office. This form states type of vehicle and does have CO2 emmission on it... the one I saw had PLG changed to PC and I sure this is where the trouble started... Glad people are getting it sorted, a donation of any refunds to Mad Mitches charity might be nice, since threads on PH have highlighted the problem.

I asked myself the same question, so contacted the DVLA for clarification. The below link was the crux of their reply. Still this is a pre-conservative government response so could all change in a few years anyway.

The opinion stated in that reply is wrong as TVR are exempt from the emission ratings by virtue of being a 'low volume manufacturer' It is of course the route that the DVLA attempt to take in an attempt to prevent creating a precedent but as can be seen by the recent successes posted in this thread an approach that can be beaten if you persevere.

If people are still having trouble with this, and I've not checked mine yet, It might be worth getting in touch with bbc watchdog as they are hot on the dvlc at the moment mainly for drivers licences but still worth a go!

Just got a new log book today with my TVR now classed as PLG. Many thanks to the people on this thread and especially to SPartridge for his help on dealing with the DVLA.

I'm just getting total silence from the DVLA. I sent my last letter to them recorded delivery.

So, not yet sorted.
