Warning to all - Gaz Golds
Discussion
I sent my 4 shocks to to L*DA to be refurbed... They wanted £750 !!!! and said it would take 7-10 days.
Got them back, took them to GAZ on a Thurs, they called me on Mon to say they were ready.
They only charged me £180 +vat. Very professional and friendly outfit that I cannot recommend enough.
If you have any questions (no matter how stupid) they are happy to explain all options.
Will definitely buy/refurb at GAZ again.

Wait, just to be clear: Refurbishing the shocks would be due to wear, i suppose? Is wear really that pronounced on the GAZ shocks and/or the springs? Or is that some kind of regular service for them?
Or ist this connected to the issues described earlier on this thread, which should be related to corrosion and fatigue fractures.
I'm a bit confused here.

generally in a service they will strip them down, replace any seals, clean everything, replace the oil and re gas them, then check performance on the dyno.
you also want springs checking , as they do loose temper
last time i had my penskies serviced the oil was minging and contaminated, the seals were wearing , one shaft was slightly bent, thus damaging a bearing, and all 4 were down on gas pressure.
after the service they were totally transformed like new. then again for aaround 200 quid a corner i should hope so.
like most high performance things they have tighter tolerances to work properly so a little wear causes performance drop off.. in a cheap damper, say like on a family road car, they are built cheap and made to operate with a large tolerance without impact on performance so you dont notice any drop off and never touch them for 100k miles.. I dare say you could leave gaz, nitron, protech, penski, ohlins untouched for 100k miles but they performance would be very impaired.

Slightly annoying bump to this thread. Working on the car today (trying to raise ride height) and I spotted this
Not entirely sure what I am looking for there? Is it leaking from the adjuster?
If so, my Gold Pros started leaking from there after less than 5000 miles and 2 years
Gaz refurbed them at no cost, will have to see how they last.

Have to agree with the above. I went back with a squeak (which turned out to be the ARB bushes) in 2010 just after I'd bought the car, they took one look and just swapped them all for new even though the eyes weren't fractured. The issue is that some of the bearing inserts were machined to be fractionally too big O/D so could be pressed in but then stressed the mounting eye which fractures. Problem is they can't tell which had the wrong inserts.
