Speedo - milometer intermittantly working

Recently, my speedo milometer stops working for a few miles, sometimes more. Then starts to click every 10th mile(which is correct,) but every time it clicks it incriments the mileage by 1 mile. then after a while it reverts back to normal operation, 10 clicks = 1 mile. is the speedo at fault or an elec fault.. Thanks

I had a similar occurance on my car when it had a few miles on the clock.Sometimes the clock did not read at all and for a short half hour period when doing about 40mph ( revs equivalent)the clock was reading 180mph. The dealer examined the car and pronounced that it was the adjustment on the pickup from the prop and its earthing.Anyway once adjusted the problem disappeared.Hope this helps.

Hi Boner, If your mileometer stops working but your speedo reads normal there is only one problem it can be... Your milemoter part of the speedo is faulty. This is a very very common fault, in most cases you will be able to have your speedo repaired however this usually means losing your car or speedo head for a few days.
