Bought myself a TR6
Discussion
Thanks Hilly.
Did it for a few reasons really, but the main one was that the usability of the TR6 was a bit limited. We want something we can take on a proper tour to the Alps or through Spain, and that really wouldn't have been an option in the TR6. Fine for popping to Cochem for an ice cream but that's about it really.
Another was the V8 aspect, it was an itch I had to scratch.

Good luck Adenauer with the Ford luxobarge!
You've just missed this year's Round Britain Reliability Run for Triumphs: https://www.clubtriumph.co.uk/rbrr/intro/
and now you will miss next year's Ten Countries Run: https://www.clubtriumph.co.uk/10cr/intro/
Both 2000+ miles in a weekend. Proper hairy-chested British sports car events!

My missus used to complain if we drove further than 50km in the TR6 You've just missed this year's Round Britain Reliability Run for Triumphs: https://www.clubtriumph.co.uk/rbrr/intro/

We have done a couple of 200mile days (there and back) in the 1924 Austin 12 over the past year we've had it.
Top speed is around 40mph, so non motorway route required, average on run is around 28mph so your talking a 7hours behind the wheel.
No indicators, brake lights, sycnro, and not a lot braking by modern standards. But otherwise remarkably manageable.
Dogs love it, so all is well! Also been to middle of France and the Nurburgring in the Westfield.
Not driven a TR6, I guess it is basic by todays standards, but capable of good speed and road holding.

I have had a few itch’s over the years and scratched them, and enjoyed every minute with those cars. We used to do a lot of Euro touring a few years ago, really enjoyed my TT Roadster went all over Spain and France, and then when we used to drive down to my mates Villa I purchased the best touring car in mind ever Audi A5 3.0 Quattro fantastic pace and yet 45 mpg. Enjoy scratching that V8 itch, bet it sounds epicDid it for a few reasons really, but the main one was that the usability of the TR6 was a bit limited. I have a new S6 for the long motorway stuff so know exactly what you're saying about the A5 3.0. They are proper mile munchers. It's my company car though so whilst it would still be good for a tour around Spain etc. it wouldn't feel special and that's another reason for the Mustang, it will feel more like a proper break when we do go away, and one that I will look forward to all the more knowing we'll take the Mustang.
I do plan on keeping it for a long time, it's a modern car with a big V8 lump (manual), and I don't think they'll be readily available for that much longer for obvious reasons. It's pretty crude when compared to European equivalents, but that's half the fun of it. And as for value for money, it can't be beaten. IMO.

You're quite clearly mental, I'm not. Top speed is around 40mph, so non motorway route required, average on run is around 28mph so your talking a 7hours behind the wheel.

Seriously though, I do get the appeal of classics, I've had quite a few. I'm just tired of the 'what was that noise' nearly every time we go out.

Almost take that as a compliment, and sometimes I'm not even sure how I get into the positions in do. Driving down the North Wales expressway to Anglesey, at night, in the pissing rain, with almost no headlight and not as much tail lights as most is not an experience we wish to repeat. Adenauer said:

Totally get the 'whar was that' reaction issue. Happens on the way to work enough with the E46 330ci daily.I have a mate who ran tatty 80s Scirocco for years, he had a few infact, then suddenly snapped. Sold the lot, got a fiesta ecoboost on finance!
We digress.
A 5 litre V8 Mustang isn't a Fiesta and it's not on finance
I like your driving in the rain with no lights story. I have a few of them, like buying a white GT6 at night in the rain under the light of a street lamp in Bristol. Bought it, drove it home, and the next morning saw that it was 50 shades of white and was mainly held together by plastic padding. I still drove it to Germany the following week and sold it on for a tidy profit though.
That would probably make a nice thread actually, 'Your car trips and terrible experiences - Tales Of The Unexpected'.

I could fill that thread with tales of my first TR6 – almost no journey completed with incident for the first six months. Still loved the thing, although being honest they are a bit of a masochist's delight. You need to spend a fair bit on them just to get them to run right and handle well, and yet they remain somewhat uncomfortable and noisy whatever you do. I scratched the V8 itch with a Monaro, which was a thoroughly satisfying car in every respect. I drove it for >100,000 miles and have no desire to own another V8.
