Actually it's quite a daft idea.

The Sprint is an engine looking for a car, and the TR7 is a car looking for an engine.

Better to try to make a Broadside or Lynx out of a TR7 and fit the AJP in that.

Just my twopennuth.
Dolly with the AJPV8 every time - TR7s are sheds.

Boosted is putting a turbo 700bhp LS1 in one.

Come on AJP / Dolly.

TR7 are sheds, and what I ask makes you make that stupid statement?

The Dolly idea sounds great so stick with it, is one aspect of what I mean't.

2nd - no apologise for being a TR2 - 6 (separate chassis guy).

3rd - I raced against stacks of the these things for 10 years on and off and while a well prepared older TR cost stack to run and equip with a killer engine the 7s cost comparatively peanuts.

I do not getting really stuck in racing and usually up the sharp end bu the about of banging and general ball to the walls and not really caring Too much if the car get stuffed coming from the TR7/8's (as they can get another up and running fairly cheaply) basically gives me that perspective on them.

A good steel race engine for a 4 - 6 will cost around the smae or maybe a good bit more than a good spec TR8 racer!

4th the hard top styling is just wrong. Drop tops and Grinnals were on the right line.

Personally I prefer the hard top TR7 over the other TRs.

Now they were PUT TOGETHER like sheds, but that's another matter.

TR7 could have been the best car Triumph ever made had they not cut every corner (between strikes). As it is we are left with the best car Triumph ever made being the Acclaim!

The TR7 was the most underated sportscar ever made, yes they suffered poor build quality but that wasn't the cars fault(earlier TR's weren't built any better). They were also years ahead of there time in design etc, when Triumph stopped production in 1981 it left a gap in the market which TVR filled with the Tasmin,a wedge shape.
So if it wasn't for Triumph cutting the TR7,TVR wouldn't have had a market and would still be marking kit cars(whoops they still are).

A sorted TR7 or TR7 V8 will wipe the floor with any of the other TR range in performance, handling, comfort and even looks.

As for Grinnalls being the "on the right line" you obviously know nothing about them and their build quality.Anyone that wants a Grinnall doesn't want a TR7 in book.

Err - I know enough to be dangerous on TR7/8 - is you see my profile! Plus I almost bought Mike Richard championship TR6 a few years back!

And my point originally (I think) is that the early cars cost alot more to reall mod and make handle but trust me my car and fatther 6 would spank any TR7/8 bar maybe one or two of the top TR Register cars - (i.e. Colin Pendles car) - when you have the current fastest time TR lap record round Thruxton (UK's fatstest track) - I think you can tell me something on TRs!

OKAY

That's it time to stop the bickering about what's the best Triumph.

I like them all but my prefrence right now is the Dolomite Sprint.

So unless you got anything constructive to say to one another

DONT SAY NOTHING.

And by the way it's going slowly the AJPSprintV8 Project
Been at it over 5 Months now

Thanks for asking

Don't know how I missed all the recent hand-bagging.

Well we all know that the Dolly Sprint is the best TR!!! , that's why the Tr Register and TSSC were a bit on the reluctant side when I wanted to race with them. Apparently, a Dolly Sprint isn't a Sports car. I couldn't really argue with that! Not that I would now as from what I have seen and heard, certain drivers seem to think they are being scouted for F1 and are regularly clobbering each other off the track.

Sorry for the thread hijack Phil but I had to get in on this! Steve Small's TR7 car won his class this year and that's got a nice Sprint engine in it!

The Dolly ISN'T a sports car - it's a touring car, and a good one too in it's day.

My point was that I couldn't argue with that. It is a touring car but since when has a herald coupe or vitesse been a sports car?!

I mistakenly thought that with dwindling grid sizes and clubs clamouring for a greater market share that they would look at the spirit of the car rather than the fact that it has 4 doors!

Never mind. I'm with the CTCRC now where the dolly sprint still wins races (admittedly not my car!)

Have you spoke to Ken Clarke? I hear he was trying to source a car for someone. No idea of what money would be on the table.

Good luck with it anyway. Like you say, too many toys. HAd to let a couple go myself.

Wouldn't happen to have a CR or wide ratio gearset for sale in that lot would you?

I now have the engine back after all the work Liner's ETC.

Building her back up slowly then going for a trial fit with the gearbox.

It's been a long wait But it should be worth it.

WELL CHUFFED.

Finally today got to trial fit the AJP8 and T5.

Need to get the engine assy it it's final resting place then make up the engine and gearbox mounting's.

Brake servo and master may have to be moved as well as the Clutch master.

Suspension turret's will also need fettling so I can use the TVR exhaust manifold's.

Some photo's are on the Triumph Owners web site under TVR AJP8

Brake servo and master cylinder's (brake and clutch)have been removed along with the heater fan motor assy that use to sit against the bulk head.

AJP8 is now sitting in the engine bay of the Sprint on a newly fabricated gearbox mount.
Hopefully sort the Engine mount's out tomorrow and then make room for the Cerbera Exhaust Manifold's.
All in all not a bad couple of day's work.

Picture's to follow at the weekend.
