My first car was a herald convertible, then a Vitesse then a Spitfire and then a GT6.I currently have a couple of XJS's butI have always really wanted a TR6.My budget isnt huge and I dont expect A+ but for between £8 and £9k I hope to get a car I can improve upon over the coming year whilst still being able to enjoy. Any tips or advice would be really appreciated.

Seek out your local group of the TR Register, and go along to their meetings - it is a great way to find out more about the TR, and may also give you some leads to a potential purchase. Also sign up to the TR Register forum. You don't have to be a member of the Register to do that. You can post a wanted ad there, which might produce results. There are certainly reasonable cars out there in the 8k to 9k range, although prices are beginning to strengthen. It took me 6 months to find my TR6, having seen some horrors which the owners thought were in excellent condition...

I built/had rebuilt mine to enjoy - pretty much new everything around a good strong engine, with all the Revington suspension goodies on a new chassis, tasty manifolds etc. Trouble is I never have the time to enjoy it much now, my wife dislikes riding in it, and I need the space for another Quattro. So if I can summon the courage it'll go in the classifieds. Needs an interior really though.

Fantastic fun and, with the Revington bits, very reliable. I use it to jump start my Audis.

I must be nuts to be thinking of selling, actually...

I had one back in the 70s...one of the last 150bhp ones

Wish I still had it. Handled like a plank, but a heap of fun.

Am I right in thinking the Carb cars are exports that have been imported back?.

Usually, yes, with twim Strombergs. Avoid.

Some however have triple Webbers to replace the Petrol Injection, but comparitively few people do this now hat the PI canbe made so reliable, more so than triple Webbers.

PI has certainly got better, but more reliable than some holes drilled in a bit of alloy scratchchin

Hi all still looking. I want a car i can use but improve on year on year.what sort of car can ~I expect for £7k even though it has 12 months MOT. Anyone live near Redruth Cornwall looks like a decent car for sale down there but too far for me just to go and view.

Hi.

I have recently just part ex'd my lovely 1974 TR6 for a TVR Griffith. I beleive the dealer still has the car for sale, it sounds as though she may be what you are looking for, the only problem is that they are based in Surrey. They can be contacted on 01428653924. Happy hunting, and if you do need any further info let me know.

There are several cars i want to go and see but it looks like it might be a week or two before I get around to them with the dodgy weather we have at the moment.

I ended up with a XJS 6.0l beautiful car. Still looking though for a TR6. Some left hand drives on fleabay but still on strombergs.Do people buy lefthand drives to use as a base and upgrade them to UK spec cars or is that a no-no.
Been keen since the early 70's When I was but a boy and I still get the same feeling of WOW!!! everytimeI see one.Just these bloody Jags are infectious too.

I just read what I wrote in 2010. I must have been going through a crisis. TR6 is in major refit and when it emerges at an unspecified date in the future it will be fab. Sometimes I sneak out to the garage to just sit in it.

Lots for sale at a price but you don't see many out and about even on a good day.

Had some great times with my TR6 in the eighties. I'd hope to have another some day.

Even met my wife in mine, but I'm not one to bear grudges.

I think there is a general higher appreciation of 60/70's Triumphs they are ageing quite nicely lets hope they don't get too appreciated before I buy one.
