today I tried fitting new front brake disc and pads, the right side I got on no problem but the left was a problem. The calliper pin/bolt won't go back in, I tried leaving the calliper off and inserting the pin/bolts but they won't even turn. I tried using the right side pin/bolts but they also wouldn't turn? The bolts look threaded (from the left side) and worn can someone help, thanks

Has the piston on the troublesome side gone all the way back in?

Are you talking about caliper mounting bolts, or slider pins in a sliding caliper, or pad retaining pins, or what?

What do you mean by "the bolts look threaded"? All bolts are threaded. . .

There is threads missing on the bolt, it's the bolt that gets torqued off to about 30nm it sits on top and bottom of calliper goes through calliper and into a bracket?

I guess you're talking about the bolts that mount the caliper assembly to the upright, but I can't be sure from that description. If you can post a few pictures of the problem that might clear things up.

From your description I wonder whether you have cross threaded both bolts in your previous attempts. If so, and if it is not too severe, you may be able to recover the threads by putting the right bolts in straight and keeping them straight while you screw them in. (It will take as much torque to screw them in straight as you previously used when you were cross threading them, so you won't be able to do this by hand.)

Could be shoulder bolts. Sounds like it's the carrier/hub bolts or the caliper/carrier bolts though in which case it's pretty critical they are right!
