I don't really see what it's solving, aside from EVs in future not using the friction brakes so much so maybe getting more corroded. Is that actually a problem on teslas I wonder?.
Other than that, it's just making wheel manufacture very much more complicated. Yes it can use a larger disc but since when is disc size even close to a limiting factor on road cars?

A lifetime brake disc they say....

Cool...it'll go well with those lifetime timing belts, or lifetime gearbox oil changes etc
