Hello,
i own a 2005 GT, my Drivers side Rear Break has started Scraping, (like it would if your pads were on the way out).
but only on this side.

i took it to the Garage and he said the Caliper is Seized and the Pads have worn right down.

i want to know if there is any way to un-seize it.

He said it looked like a VW Passat Caliper but we not prepared to try and fit one for safety reasons.

i looked online to find the Bentley Breaks are far more complex than i had seen before comprising of 10+ Parts.

the main parts seem to be the Caliper/Caliper Housing/Break Pad's/Electrical Sender(Brain).

i would like to know if i JUST need to find and buy a Caliper or weather i would need the electrical part as well.

and any recommendations of where i could get one would be great,
(tried FlyingSpares).

i do not understand how the caliper is seized if it is clearly pushing the pads in and out when i press the break. what exactly is seized?

Thanks Guys.
Nick.

That's a question for the person who diagnosed it as seized. It will probably be one of the moving parts involved in pressing the pad against the rotor. ETA: Often, it doesn't seize fully but just has extra friction which prevents the pad from retracting fully when the brakes are released, so the brakes drag while you're driving.

Give it to a competent mechanic who can establish what has seized and understands how to repair it.

There are several ways a conventional caliper can seize and it sounds as if yours may be more complex than normal, but as long as the parts are still available a competent mechanic should be able to service the caliper and get it back to as new condition.

Don't let yourself get ripped off, chances are it will just be a generic VAG parts bin special.

It's very likely to be a similar casting, but the bore may be different.

The electronics will almost certainly be for the electric handbrake. If that's working, then you're probably fine.

It might be pushing in OK, but is it releasing properly? If it was, why's that pad worn so much worse, and scraping...?

...?
More likely to be an A8 or Phaeton jobbie. Check the part numbers.

Yep, the casting's probably common across all of them - just different bore for the pistons, to give different bias.
