Hi
I need to replace the front shock absorbers on my Boxster.

I have replacement struts and top mounts ready to go.

On Friday I removed the NSF shock and placed in the vice. The one issue with the shock is that the spring moves on its own within the shock.

I can not remove the nut on the top of the strut. When I have done struts on cars in the past, the windy gyn gets them of no problem; not this time.

I heated it and it still won't move.

The fact that the spring can spin around slightly on its own, does this mean there is not much tension in the spring??

My plan now is to put the spring compressor on and then cut through the piston on the shock since I will be replacing the strut, the top mount and the locking nut anyway.

If I cut the piston, will everything other than the top nut slide easily off?

Cheers

If I lock mole grips on the piston and then tackle the top nut again?

I do not have much faith tbh but will try

Thanks
