Some context - Hit a pole hole few weeks ago which buckled alloy, got that repaired but had steering wobble at 70+. Got wheels balanced, didn't fix the wobble. Also car was pulling to left and steering felt very loose when hitting small bumps in road. Got wheels aligned and the result was the below pictures... the garage said nothing can be done to fix/align the front left camber but it won't effect the car anyway? Is this true? Can someone explain this please? Also my car still feels the same, the balancing and aligning has fixed nothing. Is it also too late to try and claim from the council?

It's still out of manufacturer's spec/ tolerance.

It means something is bent if it can't be adjusted back into tolerance/ the car cannot be adjusted for camber.

So at most they've adjusted front toe, rear toe somehow and ignored front camber ?

More importantly...what did they tell you ?

Where are you based BTW - if you're in the North West I can recommend an alignment specialist who does the job properly and doesn't charge silly money.

They literally just told me they can't adjust the camber on VW Golf's because they'd have to move the whole subframe or something like that which would then mess up the front right camber, also that it would not effect the car in anway...

Could the pothole have bent something? I am based in Bedfordshire. The garage offered to inspect the car to look for damage from the pothole, is it worth a shot?

If the pothole cracked your wheel I'd imagine it was quite an impact.

I''m not an expert on VW Golf suspension so I don't know how adjustable they are but I've had subframes moved on cars to get the best alignment. It:s not a massive job. Move the subframe to get the left front back in tolerance then adjust everything else around that.

Check out a Golf owners forum to see what can and can't be done ?

If something is bent though it means replacing parts and more cost.

Who did the alignment ? Specialist or jack of all trades (master of none)?

Jack of all trades. Do you think it's too late to try and claim from the council if it turns out something is bent and needs replacing? it happened about 3-4 weeks ago now...

The front camber on the mk5 is indeed only adjustable by moving the whole subframe and trying to achieve a happy medium.

This is what they should be aiming for. This was mine from several years ago

My car is actually an 09 MK6 Golf... only just realised they put MK5...!? They did also spell my name wrong on the paper...

Same applies. Same chassis (identical)

Try STS wheel alignment in Bedford.

Tiny little place but they do wheel alignment properly.
