I hope it is not a stupid question. I am thinking to buy the discs and pads online and take them to my local garage for fitting for my Audi A1. I am wondering which brand is good? how about Bosch? I normally do long journey on the motorway.

Thanks

Why? Have you asked the garage if they're happy with that?

Yes, I have, they are going to charge me £76 labour for changing all the discs and pads. I think it is a very good price, is that right?

I've heard bad reports about Eicher, but it appears that their pads are made in the UK by TMD Friction; Mintex.Textar & Don are TMD companies.

So, it's quite possible that in all or some of these cases you're getting the same pads made on the same production line but in different boxes. On the other hand, as Eicher is an "own-branded" product they may use a cheaper formulation than the more up-market brands, or skimp on features such as anti-squeal shims.

Companies like Brembo & Ate, which are primarily brake manufacturers, are probably buying-in their pads from one of the big manufacturers, so higher price doesn't necessarily mean extra quality, just an extra company adding its profit margin.

Haven't really helped much, have I?

Unless it's an S1 or another high powered A1, I'd say any of those are fine for normal road use.

ATE are the best from your selection.

ATE/Pagid are good, avoid Eicher if you want to live through an emergency braking event.

Note:

If there is an issue the garage can VERY easily say it is "your" parts that were at fault & you effectively end u with no guarantee on the work, either DIY or wholly them for supply & fit but you say what brand to fit is much better, they may even be able to get them cheaper.
