I have a 2000 (X-Reg) Mercedes S280. It drives great, but sometimes at slower speeds, I get a high pitched squeak noise coming from near side. Strangely, it doesn't go away when I press the brake pedal, so that would rule out a brake issue?

If not brakes, anyone any idea what else if could be?

Many thanks

It could be part of the parking brake system separate from the main braking system.

I don't know whether they're used on your car but some cars have devices built into the brakes which are deliberately designed to squeal when the pads are worn out. I would have thought a modern car would have an electrical wear sensor instead, but it would be worth a check.

Suspension, exhaust, rubbing flexible pipe??

Get under, inspect, use a pry bar to see if anything that should move isn't or vice versa.

2 things to look for;

Disc backing plate/dust shield rubbing on disk.

Rusty drum skirt rubbing on back plate.

Jack each wheel up and spin it by hand to see if noise there.
