Hi all,

I'm looking at buying an old Rangie that needs tlc on the leather front.

What are your recommendations?

I don't care about the leather smell, but it needs to restore colour, nourish the leather so it doesn't dry and crack and last the test of time, as I don't want to do anything t again for a good year or so.

Thanks :-)

In my experience, the best by a country mile. And not just for Range Rovers. I use this stuff on my Panamera, too.

LTT Leather Care products. A cleaner, a protectant and then a simple product for wipe on wipe off cleaning. Good value and it really works on all leather.

Glyptone Liquid Leather is an excellent product. You can actually buy a leather cleaner and conditioner as a pair. It's about £10-15 off eBay.

I used this combination on my other half's SL seats and it made a real difference. Every now and then, I use the conditioner and it keeps the leather nice and supple. smile

I second this - I had a car with cream leather and it worked superbly

+1 for this and worked brilliantly on my Classic Vogue SE. Works as a system, recommended elsewhere on PH and comes with some good advice on phone and with leaflets provided.

NB: As a newbie having watched a bit of YouTube went all in with a steam cleaner. Worked well, but needed using more carefully than I used.

Most leathers in standard prod cars are not porous so conditioners are generally a waste of time, just make your trousers greasy. A good cleaner and a leather sealant like Gtechniq L1 to protect it could be a good shout. As for the best cleanser, they all pretty much do the same thing, some slightly better or quicker than others but warm soapy water and a pad is a start then wipe down and seal.

I use Gtechniq W1 Multi purpose cleaner, (no I don't sell it but have used stacks of products and this works well), dilute it to the strength you need for the job in hand. Works out cheap and very effective.

Thanks for the info, all. Are any good at sorting out cracks? I'd like to make them less apparent, if possible.

The cracks tend to be exaggerated by the dirt in the leather so give the seats a clean first and you might find that the cracks weren't actually cracks afterall.

If indeed they turn out to be cracks there are various car leather seat repair kits out there

Seconded. I have a black kit to do my Z4 this year, when I get the time. Only thing to remember is that you have to "scrub off" the existing finish before you re-colour. I am VERY nervous of this, but apparently it is easy.

Give them a ring and they are really helpful.

Their conditioner and cleaner is great too!

The best leather cleaning product for grubby leather i have used is https://www.ogdensleather.co.uk . I have an older BMW and the seats just looked unclean and shiny. Worked wonders on them!

Angelwax Heaven for leather is a great leather cleaner, then i'd seal it with Nanolex leather sealant.
