Folks,

Need to get the Ovlov wheels off and give it a proper going over. Any suggestions for a tough wheel cleaner that won't strip either the lacquer or my skin?

Cheers

Good old Auto Finesse Iron Out is always a good starter for 10 for me!

I use this myself - https://shop.autofinesse.co.uk/imperial-1litre

Don't buy it as the 500mm bottle though, but the 1l concentrated bottle and dilute yourself, last a long time.

Could also use this is they're quite bad - https://shop.autofinesse.co.uk/iron-out-500ml

If you're taking the wheels off to clean them, it would be good to seal the wheels to make life easier in the future. Previously I've used auto finesse tough coat just because I had it, but there are specific sealants for wheels which I'm assuming cope better.

Billberry does the trick, used to used Wonder Wheels but it tended to dissolve bits of my hands.

This: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wheels-and-tyres/whe...

And this: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wheels-and-tyres/son...

Are the 2 best wheel cleaners out there for me, and both proper wheel cleaners not just fallout removers like Iron Out for instance.

Auto Wheels is my favourite as it is much better value.

Bilt Hamber Autowheels is very very effective. Depending on how dirty they are, you may need a tar remover too. finally, some wheels are so bad that acid is the only thing that will work, but hopefully yours aren't in that state.

Acid (or things like Wonder Wheels) are too strong, they don't just take the grime off they take the paint too.

Just take your time with decent products.

If you want something you can probably go out and get today or tomorrow I'd to to Euro Car Parts and buy something from Sonax.

Another one for Bilt Hamber here.

Already use this, Korrosol, their clay bar and auto foam.

All pretty much Ph neutral I believe.

If the wheels are really black with baked on brake dust then Wonder Wheels is the only thing that will actually get it off relatively easily, and it's cheap. It's not for regular cleaning though. It's very strong, but despite what people say I've never actually damaged any wheels with it.
I also bought some Bilt Hamber Auto-Wheel based on the good reviews, but it was rubbish - that's when I went back to good old Wonder Wheels. Bilt Hamber also STINKS!! The whole 'turns red as it eats the brake dust' is just a silly gimmick to impress teenagers.

Autosmart acid free cleaner concentrate is really good. Comes in a 5l tub and dilute it 1:1. I dont know if you can buy it in any shops though, we buy it from a man with a van that goes round all the garages selling cleaning stuff. They also do loads of other really food cleaning stuff and waxes.

I'm looking for something pretty strong. From a few track days brake dust has baked itself on my wheels and each time I go to clean it after the track days I really struggle to get it off. In fact, I can't get all of it off no matter which product I try and if I scrub too aggressively I micro mar the surface and end up with a bunch of fine scratches.

I have tried multiple bottles of Auto Finesse Iron Out, Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel, foam cleaner, etc. I can see them working and getting the big stuff out but there are little specs that just won't come out and when you rub a towel across the wheel it will snag as a result. So polishing the wheels or adding a sealant is not that easy.

Is there a gel or something that I can spray on or apply and let it sit for a while to attack the brake dust? Something that is really aggressive but won't damage the paint?
