Welding rip off?
Discussion
Hi all
Picked up my wife's ford Ka from the garage today. It had failed the not on corrosion around the petrol cap and she paid £195 for two hours welding to sort it. I checked it out when I got home and I can't see that they've done any welding at all. Am I missing something? I can't see any welds or new metal. Nothing on the underside in the same area. Grateful for any comments before I take it back to them in the morning to find out what they claim to have done.

Take the big plastic wheelarch cover off & you may well find it's as rotten as a pear under it as well.
Well known on Ka's.
IIRC Ford have a big circular foam disc thing around the filler neck inside the panel which absorbs & holds water against the steel with the result you see. Seen lots of them with a big ring of rust bubbles round the filler neck the same as your pic.
I take it your photo isn't the 'after'? If it is & the garage can't show any work I'd suggest you speak to DVSA:

Bottom of the A pillars & the bottom of the B pillars where they join the door sills are also noted - the latter being one of the reasons why Ford started putting the little clear plastic protectors in that area as stones chipping the paint let the rust begin.
