Hi all

Picked up my wife's ford Ka from the garage today. It had failed the not on corrosion around the petrol cap and she paid £195 for two hours welding to sort it. I checked it out when I got home and I can't see that they've done any welding at all. Am I missing something? I can't see any welds or new metal. Nothing on the underside in the same area. Grateful for any comments before I take it back to them in the morning to find out what they claim to have done.

Have a very good look, it is probably covered in under seal (if it is there).

I'd guess that they've ground it back and filled it. Bit more dismantling to be done I'd have thought before welding near the fuel filler..

Take the big plastic wheelarch cover off & you may well find it's as rotten as a pear under it as well.
Well known on Ka's.

IIRC Ford have a big circular foam disc thing around the filler neck inside the panel which absorbs & holds water against the steel with the result you see. Seen lots of them with a big ring of rust bubbles round the filler neck the same as your pic.

I take it your photo isn't the 'after'? If it is & the garage can't show any work I'd suggest you speak to DVSA:

Bottom of the A pillars & the bottom of the B pillars where they join the door sills are also noted - the latter being one of the reasons why Ford started putting the little clear plastic protectors in that area as stones chipping the paint let the rust begin.

The corrosion in the pic is so widespread you can buy a purpose made repair panel for it.
What they've left behind is an MOT failure too, it looks like some soot there which indicates welding has been done behind.
