Hi all,

My current car (seat leon cupra r 225) has a faded steering wheel, I looked on seatcupranet and a chap posted a topic on how to refurb this particular steering wheel as they are known for fading and not wearing age well, the pictures from the thread as missing (thanks photobucket rolleyes ) anyway... I watched a video where a guy applied some leather shoe polish.

I lightly cleaned the area with warm water and a pad (as suggested) and have conditioned it with leather cleaner, finally adding shoe polish to restore form and colour.

Results are mixed, it looks better but not great in all honesty.

Any suggestions on how to bring it back to its former glory would really help me out.

Thanks guys!

Firstly you need to thoroughly clean and degrease the surface. If it is indeed leather, then a combination of alcohol and solvent cleaners will help you strip off the existing damaged top coating allowing fresh coats of colour and protective coating to be applied.

It is time consuming but results can be good if you are prepared to put the work in.

So I must continue stripping to smooth the area? Then apply cleaners and restorers, and finally colour?

I am willing to put work in to get it right smile

Surprisingly not!

I used a roller ball to apply it and after around 5 minutes it was dry, had a spirited drive and it didnt even come off then smile
