How to clean your alloy wheels for peanuts.
Discussion
Fed up with your lovely shiny alloys continually being ruined by covered in horrible filthy oily brake dust, especially the front ones?
1) Get an empty spray bottle....Windowlene, Flash etc.
2) Fill with ordinary white spirit...…(£1 from Poundland)
3) Spray all over a small section of your wheel at a time, wiping off after a few seconds before the white spirit dries
4) Hose off, and clean your wheels with soapy water as normal and rinse off with clean water.
In the past, I have tried all the usual branded products, Auto Glym, Wonder Wheels etc, at great expense, with mixed results, but nothing beats white spirit for cutting through grime and is 100% safe providing everything is rinsed off thoroughly.
Try it and report back.

I've been using it for twenty odd years, on all types of wheels including some fairly expensive ones, never had a problem.
Just make sure you rinse everything off properly with clean water afterwards including the tyres.

Is this safe for the finish?
White spirit is like WD40 in a way, you can wipe it all over the place and it's pretty much undamaging to any hard surface on a car. It's quite mild and a little oily. You'd do more damage with acid or automotive paint thinners which are much more aggressive. 227bhp said:
