I would like to get my financial st together so to speak, and at least two IFA that I have contacted either don't work in this area any more (fair enough) or are so busy that they can't possibly answer a phone or return a call or email (tts).

Therefore some local knowledge on one that's good with pensions and investments would be much appreciated.

Ta in advance.

Well, as someone who has failed to use IFAs & still done (what I would consider!) okay - do you really need one?

Why not chime into the IM sticky thread and take some over the phone or email advice from Nik: he is pretty good, I would say, particularly when it comes to pensions and investments....& no, they haven't (yet!!) offered me any discounts for singing their praises smile

I haven't moved my primary work pension fund to them - I get a pretty beneficial Aviva Membersite low cost one, but we have taken out a smaller pension for MrsMikeIOW and a couple of investments each with them - their fees are very good and willingness to help with zero pressure on sales is great, IMHO.

As a vaguely related aside....I went to a retirement seminar recently with a local well-regarded IFA. My oh my, what a waste of time that was! You can learn more with a 30-45 minute chat with someone who knows what they are talking about than that!

& before I get shot down - I am sure there are some IFAs who work well on behalf of their client, with fees that don't dramatically consume their funds & growth over longer periods of time....but I remain sceptical about my ability to discover one: I find perusing this plus a couple of MSE forums to be more valuable.

Thanks for the recommendation Mike - we can't offer you a bigger discount than the 0% initial charge we offer all PHers! hehe

OP - Nik told Mike he was better off keeping his workplace pension where it was, because it was a good one. I trust that shows that we do the right thing for each client rather than the right thing for us!

I don't want to breach any PH advertising rules so if you would like to pop a post on the Intelligent Money sticky at the top of this section I can go into more detail about how we can be of assistance there.

Mike and Julian (if you are indeed separate people wink ) thank you - I'm voraciously reading the sticky and will ask directly Julian if I would like some specific advice.
