I just bought this E39 530D. I'll get quotes to fix the two rust patches but would like an idea how much people here think it will cost to fix both properly. Are they both glass out jobs?

Maybe up to a grand. The bottom one is a windscreen out job.

Have you had a very good look at the sills too? The jacking point covers can let water in and they rot out from the inside.

Tourings are worse than saloons for it, and the rear ones generally worse than the front.

Ask me how I know…



Well worth saving if you’ve got a good one though.

Thanks. It's a 100,000km left hand drive car with almost full history. The sills look OK. I'm really pleased with it. Will owe me £5k when this work is done and a couple of other bits.

The corrosion disappears behind trim on both pics.
To do properly you need to expose it all so remove what is necessary or it will be back in months.

Exactly this. Could probably be done for £300 if it was just case of flatting and local paint but if it's about doing an actual repair, there is going to be a bit of work to do there in terms of prep and welding in patches.
