Generic paintjob question...

What sort of money would you expect to pay for a decent "standard" metallic paint job?
The car I have in mind is a Rover Coupe (silver if that makes any difference) - appears to be in pretty good nick under the paint - only a single 5p size ding in the o/s/f wing, a touch of rust (hasn't rusted through) on the n/s/r wing (about 10mm x 6mm total), and a chip out of the spoiler. Otherwise it's straight (in my eyes anyway), all the panels seem flush etc.
The only reason it needs paint is that it's been run through too many car washes and along a few bushes too (a lot of scratches all over it), the lacquer has pealed away in many places, and the bumpers are a different colour. The car's in Mid-Kent if this has any bearing on the cost.
I ask as my brother's thinking of buying it as a little runabout. It appears to be a good car that needs a fair bit of TLC to the bodywork...Otherwise it's a blinding little car for next to no money.

PS having had no experience of bodyshops, what do I need to look out for?

Thats what i said a decent job cheaper jobs from £500 upwards .... most of the money is labour all do to with the preperation ..... time is money after all.
Strip the car down, remove the glass, all the preperation work for rust etc, building up with primer rubbing down, undercoats, base coat to check for paint imperfections, top coats and the laquer, putting back together and polishing up.
You work that out @ £30 an hour minimum plus the paints etc.
Not cheap.
£500 will get you a quick spray over
What you pay is what you get!!!!

Appreciate the comments. Shame I can't find anywhere that I trust locally to do a proper job for much less than a couple of grand. Don't get me wrong, I know that it's time consuming and seriously skilled work, but for a car that's worth less than that in the first place, it simply ain't worth it...

Hi Eddie,
cheers for the info. Sounds like you know your stuff (chrome paint cannot be easy to spray for instance!!), and you're not a million miles away. Didn't get the car, but your contact details are definitely noted for future reference!
Cheers
Rob
